I know there are a lot of new members out there since I was a member here (which is good to see because a good many of us went on to BFPs)...but I did want to give my update to offer some hope that miracles do happen...this update is actually pretty emotional to do because of how much I struggled every month with each BFN...I actually stopped POAS and to this day never did see the double line even with this little guy that is sleeping in my arms right now (the short story on that one is that when beta day came around I took the one test I had left and used it about 5am only to discover it was defective - so waited for the call that afternoon - I'm a HS Counselor so was with a student when the call came in too..it's a moment I won't forget)...
Needless to say I started TTC#2 around October 2010...just assumed it would take about three months like it did to conceive DD. but after 6 months of nothing I saw an RE (I was 36 1/2 then)...my FSH was borderline 10.5 but my AMH was a measly 0.48...that coupled with my mom & grandma both going thru full menopause by the age of 42 made my RE a bit more aggressive. We did a total of 3 IUIs with 150 follistim & ovidrel...my RE does back to back ones. I just assumed that making an appt would get me the BFP but from May to October with our medicated cycles that never happened. On Sept 1, 2011 I sat in my REs office talking about IVF...actually make that crying for over an hour while I listened & tried to get my questions out. For those struggling with going on to IVF, it's not an easy decision and only you can decide what is right for you...my dilemma was what to do with leftover embies(who was I kidding that we'd have any with my numbers)...But it still was hard to decide to go this route...
We did go on to IVF in Nov 2011...my protocol was estrogen (no BCP)...then right on to follistim, menopur, ganirelex, and ovidrel. When my ER came around we were excited that they got 9...6 fertilized...but the day of my ET(the day after Thanksgiving) we got the call that they were canceling the cycle because 3 were still growing but not at the right stage to transfer. Devastated is an underestimate as to how I felt that day and last holiday season). But we did get a call the next day saying one made it to freeze...he was given a "CB" quality - which wasn't promising...but we'd have to wait until January to transfer.
We were given the option to do another fresh cycle but opted to give our one "snow baby" a chance first. Well when my FET day came around I was so nervous that he wasn't going to make the thaw...but he did & was already hatching...but I was still in disbelief that I'd get my BFP...but like i said miracles do happen!
Had a very uneventful pregnancy (which is good) but a week before my due date they wanted to do an u/s to check on his weight...and found out he was a whopping 9lbs 13oz...but they were more concerned my fluid levels were too high..so even though we had planned for a VBAC they were recommending a RCS...
On Friday, 10/5 I had to go back in to check on my fluid levels which they had continued to rise which put me at risk for uterine rupture, etc...so even though I was still working and was supposed to supervise the SAT administration at my school the next day, I had to scramble for a back up plan because three hours later I was at the hospital being prepped for my RCS...
At 10:35pm Alexander Charles was born weighing that 9lbs 13oz and almost 21"...I was shocked to find out he was a boy...even though my initial guess was boy but my one dream I had about the baby was a girl (which was right with my DD)...he did spend the night in the NICU because one of the nurses thought he looked a little blue...so I never got to hold him until 8ish the next morning.
He's a great baby...but definitely a party animal at night( which we are hoping to change very soon). My DD did cry when we told her it was a boy but now she does call him her best friend!
Sorry for the long winded message...I just wanted to share my story in hopes that It helps someone with their journey. I still lurk here and am cheering all you ladies on...even though this a place none of us want to be at, it was always great to have such a supportive group of women...lots of thoughts & prayers to those that need it today!
