S/O Showers....

LalaMama's post about not showering every day made me downright jealous!!!!  If I don't shower every day, I am gross.  I don't think not showering in itself is gross, I'm saying that I personally am gross.

I have very oily skin and apparently I sweat a lot.  Attractive, I know.  I wear waterproof clinical strength deodorant but after being at school all day I still manage to find a way to offend my husband. (not every day)

Also?  The hair.  Ugh.  Every once in a blue moon I'll make the bad decision to just shower but not wash my hair.  I look good for about an hour.  Then I just look like I need a shower.

Who else wants to make me jealous??  I once had a friend who showered every few days and looked and smelled gorgeous on a daily basis.  I'm a mess. ;)

edited because I have screen name dyslexia. ;)

Re: S/O Showers....

  • I'm also jealous of those who don't need to shower daily. My hair is soooo gross and dirty if I don't wash it every day. I can't even shower at night because it will look awful by midmorning the next day.

I'm sure some of it is hair type, but I'm also pretty convinced that anyone can do it if they really give up shampoo for good and wait out the gross part while your "training," your hair.

I tried to train my hair once.  I lost.  My hair worked me.  I can't remember why or how I went for so long without washing it, but it wasn't pretty.  I 100% think it is hair type.  I am SUPER envious of those with thick locks.  This baby fine crap doesn't quite cut it.

My hair also laughs in the face of dry shampoos.

I am the one who said she only showers every other day - if I get super sweaty, sure I get gross and shower, but the average day is usually fine - especially for running errands, library, zoo, playgrounds, etc. Going out on the town? I'd shower.

RE: the hair. I always thought I had to wash every day or it would be so greasy/gross. Until I gave up shampoo. I wash w/ baking soda, rinse w/ apple cider vinegar, sometimes use conditioner. The lack of shampoo has trained my hair to stop over-producing oil. There fore I can go 4, 5, 6, days w/o washing it. I can't remember the last time I washed my hair more than once in 4 days. It doesn't get gross until day 6 or 7. I do use a bit of dry shampoo now and then, but not often.

This is me too.  Except I work 4 days/week, and I do shampoo/condition, but I just only do it 2, maybe 3 times per week.  Day one my hair looks okay, day 2 it looks great, day 3 it's usually up in an alligator clip, then I wash that night (sometimes I can get away with day 4 in an alligator clip too).  Had to train my hair, which I was convinced would never not need daily washing.  But two weeks of excessive dry shampoo use and creatively putting it up in clips/hair ties, and it was trained.  I don't have any legitimate reason to need to fully wash hair, etc every single day and not doing so saves me lots of time and allows me to sleep in a bit.  I don't see myself every going back to every single day showers, and absolutely will NEVER wash my hair every day again.

Not to belabor the point, but "training" it isn't just not washing it. I gave up shampoo, using only the BS & ACV. Started off doing it every other day. Then after weeks and weeks, probably, months, I moved to every 3rd day. And so on. It was a long process, I couldn't just start going once a week right away. There is a month or so when you are giving up shampoo, that your hair is adjusting. And yea, it can be a little gross.

I was working when I did this, so it isn't like I was just SAH and wearing a baseball cap. It's been 7.5 years now, and I am still as happy with it as I was. I have long, thick hair, there is no way I could wash it daily or even every other day and have time to dry it or make it look decent. I'd be in a constant state of damp frizzy hair. I guess it doesn't hurt that I think shampoo isn't good for your hair/scalp so it was easier to make the commitment.

Do you dye your hair? I'd LOVE to give up shampoo because it costs me so dang much I have really thick hair but I dye it and am afraid that the BS would fade the color out.
