Where does your kid sit for meals?

DS is 2.5 and still in a high chair. Its easy to clean up, and he eats more meals than the rest of us, so Idk we just kept him in it. We pull him up to the table for supper or family meals obviously (wheels).

I've just been wondering when I should just put him in a booster at the table or just let him sit in the regular chair?

I live with my parents/brother so we would have to put the leaf in the table to add an extra chair...which isn't really a big deal, but does take up more space than the high chair.

Once he turns 3, I feel like we will all feel silly with him sitting in a high chair, but we don't really have a nice booster (just the one that came with the high chair)

Re: Where does your kid sit for meals?

  • My DDs sit in a regular chairs at the table. They have to kneel but they want to sit "like big girls." They used boosters until about 2-1/2 years old. My 9 month old sits in a booster at the table with us. We've never owned a high chair.

  • We have a cheap booster (like $20 at Walmart) that all 3 girls have used from high chair to regular chair.  It straps them in which is a plus.  I carried it in my van for about a year once DD3 was eating tablefood.  We did lunches with friends and didn't always have an additional chair.
  • My 2.5 year old sits in a spacesaver and my 4.5 year old sits either on a chair or on a simple booster.  The spacesaver reclines so as soon as the babies were being fed solids, they were in that.  Once the second baby came along, we moved DD into a simple booster.

  • We bought the kaboost which goes under the regular chair and raises it up so he sits on the regular chair, but it isn't too low.

We bought it around his 2nd birthday and for a few weeks he preferred using his other chair.

But he finally and now always requests sitting in the chair with the kaboost on the bottom.

  • DD sits on a regular chair at a restaurant but we still like strapping her in at home (she sits longer and eats better).  She uses an Eddie Bauer travel booster that straps to the seat.  DS uses the booster seat with tray that was part of his high chair.  He's just too messy at this point to not have the tray.

  • DD sits/kneels on a regular chair.  Occasionally if we are lazy and eating in the living room she will sit in her high chair.  At restaurants she will sit in a high chair, booster or regular chair.

  • At our kitchen table she sits on the chair.  At our dining room table she sits in a booster b/c the table is higher.

  • DD was in the high chair without the tray (right up to the table) at a year, a booster seat around a year and a half, and in a regular chair less than four months after that.  She kneeled on the chair for a while first, but now can sit on her bottom too, if she wants.

  • Both of our boys are in boosters.  DS #2 has been in a booster since ~9 months.  The high chair took up too much space in our kitchen, and he wanted to be at the table with the rest of us.  DS #1 is about ready to be out of his booster seat.  His legs don't fit under the table anymore.  Our booster aren't really nice.  I got DS #1 at a thrift store and DS #2 at Target for ~$20.

  • DD sits at the island in our kitchen, on a bar stool.  She was in a booster until 1 1/2 then she decided that was it; she wanted to be a big girl.  So, she started sitting at the table on regular chair and since our move a few weeks ago she has been at the island on a bar stool.  At the restaurant she sits on a chair.  She has been out of a high chair for so long now that she will throw a fit if you try and per her in one.  Plus, her baby brother uses a high chair so high chairs are for babies in her mind.

  • A still uses his Tripp Trapp.  Its infinitely adjustable so I don't see use moving him out of it any time soon.  When we're out, we do a mix of highchairs, boosters and kneeling in a regular chair.

  • He is in a booster. We switched him from his high chair around age 2. We always had the room at the table, but I mostly just got sick of cleaning his high chair tray all the time.
  • My DD runs around the house and eats.  For real.   I have a hard time setting boundaries.  She does have a really nice booster seat though.  At my parents she has a highchair that they removed the top of, and she sits right at the table.
