October 2011 Moms

Going on a 12hr roadtrip Wednesday.

Eeesh. Anyone have any tips or tricks? Dh and I were thinking of leaving at night and driving through the night all at once. Originally we were going up space it over 2 days with lots of stops. I wish we didn't have to drive, but it is what it is.
July 20th, 2012: Never forget the day the fb douchebags tried so hard, but ultimately failed. Viva la October 2011! Yeah, I called you douchebags.

  • We've done a handful of 11hour. I like leaving at 4ish driving to dinner, take a long dinner, then drive the rest of the way. Baby sleeps most of the way but you don't get in too late.

Great idea.  I don't have any tips, just want to say good luck and have fun.  :)

  • I would definitely go at night but I have a baby who hates hates hates being in the car. We have a beach condo that's about four hours alway and we only travel at night. Lessons learned the hard way for us.

  • Driving at night is best. My IL's live 7 hours away and we just got back from a visit. We left around 5:30 Thursday afternoon. I fed DD supper before we left, and she slept for about an hour and a half. We stopped to get gas, change her diaper (into a night time one), and got us food to go. I sat in the back with her and fed her some apple sauce, she drank some milk and played for about an hour. She slept the rest of the trip. Coming back we left at 10 in the morning. We had to stop 4 times instead of the one time traveling at night. Have plenty of snacks, toys, books, etc. I even brought a DVD player although I ended up watching it more than she did.

  • We've drove to both North Dakota and to Las Vegas from Washington State.  We put him in the car next to a big bag of toys that he can pull out and play with at his will.  This has always worked for us.  Also, those little squish packs of fruit puree are good for feeding.  We usually got our meals at a grocery store and stopped at a park to eat it, so C could crawl around.

    Good luck!!

ETA: I just reread that you were thinking about breaking this drive up.  I highly recommend doing that, then it would be more pleasurable for everyone.  Kinda like a little vacation.  Maybe you could even stay at a hotel with a pool so Wes could go swimming.

Also, we've always driven during the day, and we've never had any issue of him going to sleep at our destination
