I know boys take longer than girls and my son has had two successful times at daycare (standing up no less) and once here at home as soon as he woke up. He still wakes up completely soaked every morning but he still is asking for drink (water) at night 2 or 3 times (once in a while 4). Not sure if he's truly "ready" or not. I graduate my master's degree at the end of november, which at that time I'll be able to dedicate time completely to PT (hubby needs help doing it). He drinks SO MUCH during the day and night than I wonder if he'll EVER PT
Re: 3 year old and still not PT...is this bad?
First of all, no it's not bad.
Secondly, stop giving him so much to drink at night. Consider the possibility that he's just doing that as a stalling technique or to get you in the room. Make sure his last drink is 1.5-2 hours before he's tucked in and have him do a potty check before sleeping. Either establish a no-drinking at night rule or when he asks for water give it to him in a teeny tiny cup.
Well then I'm in bad parent camp too but I have chosen not to force the issue as my son has been adamantly anti PTing (he is 3 yrs almost 3 mos)... as in- yelling NO and I can't do it! and stuff like that when I even attempt to have him sit on the potty & try (and I really don't force it, when we do sit & try it is like for 30 sec when he starts yelling that he can't do it). We've tried 2-3 days at home of wearing underwear and sitting and all that and 2 days at daycare on a separate occasion & he just is not interested & doesn't care at all when he has an accident & is playing in wet undies/clothes. The teachers pretty much said they are happy to help but can't force him to sit and obviously none of us can force him to actually go while he is sitting... As so many ppl have told me that often they will just one day ask to go or start wanting to, I have decided to wait for that day (my DD did exactly that but was 2 1/2 and her PTing was done within 2 weeks).
Last night when he got in the tub he started saying he had to go pee and I put him right on the potty & he peed a little and then at the end of the bath he said it again & went even more...it was the first time he ever initiated having the sensation so of course we made a big huge deal out of it, etc. Also only the 2nd time ever he got any pee out while sitting on a toilet/potty. So I'm trying not to get my hopes up but hoping it is the start of progress.
GL & don't beat yourself up!
My DS is 3 1/2 and is barely showing interest.
He does sit on the potty at school but hasn't actually peed on the potty. Starting to tell us when he poops now.
We are hoping to attempt potty training in a few weeks.
