"Because Proverbs 31:23 describes a virtuous woman as praising her
husband, Evans took to the streets with a sign about her own spouse,
declaring, ?Dan is awesome.?"
She says she wanted to make women {and I'm paraphrasing here} not feel bad about themselves if they aren't perfect...or something similar. She acts as though she is fairly religious. I think it comes off as making fun of it a bit.
My favorite part of the whole article was the part where the husband said "You would think it was a turn on...but it wasn't" LOL
I had the chance to watch it this morning and the lady is crazy. She even went to lengths to sleep in a tent while on her period! If she found herself closer to God and doing this made her feel better about herself I'm glad she did it. Having said that, I have no intentions of reading it.
"As an evangelical Christian, Rachel Held Evans often heard about the importance of practicing "biblical womanhood," but she didn't quite know what that meant. Everyone she asked seemed to have a different definition.
I personally think it sounds interesting and shows how people use the bible as an interpretation of living loosely and realistically no one should/could live like this. We take was is convenient from the bible but ignore the other parts. I think she is pretty brave...I would never attempt anything like this!

I love it. I love how she 'walked the walk' and showed the ridiculousness of alot of biblical views of women. Also loved how her DH was not turned on by being called master, lol.
IMO I don't think she really walked the walk. Like Scattered said, she was confusing Biblical and Culrural standards.
She basically pretended to be a woman from the ancient middle eastern culture.
Practicing Biblical womanhood isn't about sleeping in a tent when you're on your period or calling your husband master, it's about respect, patience, kindness, and love.
In fact, I would venture to say that if her husband were uncomfortable with her shenanigans, then she wasn't really practicing Biblical womanhood at all.
This is why I said she didn't really accomplish anything aside from looking like a weirdo. In fact, the more I think abou it, the more uncomfortable I am with it as a Christian woman, but she seems like she had good intentions, I guess.
I agree with this and also don't understand why anyone would follow old testament laws when the point of Christ is a NEW covenant. If its something from the old testament that should be followed, you can also find it in the new testament. Otherwise it's not a rule to follow. Also we are saved by Grace and not by rule following because we would fail if that were the case. That's pretty major to Christianity. I think I'd be ok with old testament living this year though. I am trying to grow my hair out, I don't have periods since I'm pregnant so I can freely touch my husband, I know how to sew and I'm having #3 so I've made it to multiply status. Yes! Hahahaha just kidding. There's plenty I couldn't handle and I'm glad I don't have to.

Why do you think she's crazy? Did she seem to be coming from a place of wanting to understand and teach or ridicule of religion? I'm really curious.
If "all things all possible through God" why would you convert backwards? If you belive all things are possible then why not move forward since He made it happen? I wonder if she even used pads or tampons while camping out on her period, they didnt have those back then. Also, I believe everyone interprets the bible in different ways. Coming from the same religion as she I would think she would have consulted her priest before embarking on such an adventure....it just sounds like a little crazy to me. Like I said, if she feels closer to God than good for her, it just wouldn't here. To each their own. I guess that's why He loves all of us!
Re: Biblical Womanhood...
Nevermind, it doesn't work.
LOL...this is hilarious.

Evans decided to embark on a quest to figure out how to be a woman by the Bible's standards. For one year, she has followed every rule in the Old and New Testaments. Her project will end next Saturday." https://www.npr.org/2011/09/25/140761994/biblical-womanhood-a-year-of-living-by-the-book
