DD vs. Sippy Cup

My DD will drink water from a sippy cup all day long but refuses to take milk from a sippy cup. I'm almost finished weaning her now and I'd really like to stop with the bottles.

Anybody go through this or have any tips?

Thanks!

Re: DD vs. Sippy Cup

  • Uggh.  My latest problem too.  Try different cups?  I'm trying some new ones hoping she'll associate milk with different cups than the ones she's been using for water.  So far, no luck here but I guess we have to keep trying.  I tried quitting bottles cold turkey and she didn't get the hint, so I went back to bottles, fearing she was dehydrated.

  • We just offered milk everyday in a sippy, she eventually took it.  We like the playtex sippy cups.

  • I had to go cold turkey with both my girls. She *will* get it!! She's just outsmarting you :)

  • We went cold turkey, too.  That worked for us.  Her milk intake was low for a few days, but I tried to make up for it with extra yogurt and cheese.  She has been doing better and better with milk over the last couple of weeks.

Have you tried mixing BM/formula with milk to see if she'll take it that way?  We did that for about a week, gradually increasing the amount of milk.  Just another idea...

Same thing happened with my DD. Just wait it out and don't offer the bottle. The cup my DD finally took without hesitation was the take & toss sippy cups. The cheapest ones of course and the last ones I tried. She only takes milk out of these. All other cups are for water.

This.  I had noticed he was drinking less and less from bottle, so he almost weaned himself off, but he was also hesitant about drinking the milk from the sippy, but did fine drinking water.  I just kept offering it several times a day and not offering the bottle.  It really didn't take but a few days and he became comfortable with milk in the sippy.  It may be different for you, but everyone has some good suggestions, so see what works for you!
