Too much energy

I often joke that Chris doesn't stop moving unless he's asleep and even then is still wiggling around.  Lately, however, it's starting to concern me a little.  He really just doesn't stop.  Jumping, running, jumping, singing - even if it's 2:00 AM.  It's absolutely exhausting - most especially when he gets up and starts running around for 2 hrs in the middle of the night.

Is this seemingly endless supply of energy and constant motion typical of kids on the spectrum or could this be something else?

Thanks

The constant physical busyness could be a symptom of ADHD. ADHD is a common comorbid for ASD.

Yeah. That's the thing gnawing at the back of my mind. MIL always saying how Chris is just like DH. That's not a good thing as DH has ADHD.

Thanks as always for your insight auntie.

  • I was just thinking about this tonight. My oldest is on the spectrum and it takes him 1 to 2 hours to fall asleep. He is constantly getting out of his room, asking for milk, water, etc. He uses the bathroom a few times. My husband and I were trying to figure out what he ate, sometimes we see an increase in activity with certain things. My husband took him to Disneyland today and said he should be extra tried with all the walking, but it is now two hours since he and his brother were put to bed and he is still awake. Another thing my son has started in the last few months is laughing for now apparent reason. He can be pretty draining.
