Nurseries and Baby Gear

Cleaning baby gear

I bought some used items (swing, bouncer, gym mat) and I'm wondering what you ladies use to clean baby gear. Is it safe to use bleach or lysol on plastic parts?

Re: Cleaning baby gear

  • On the plastic parts? Sure, but use a diluted bleach solution, or use the Greenworks Lysol wipes. If you do bleach don't use the HE, use regular and a 1/8 ratio with water. Let the parts air dry. If its not going to be used for a day it's fine. That's how the children's hospital disinfects the toys here. The soft stuff is harder, but sometimes you can use a mild dish soap and soft cloth to clean. Don't use any of this on car seats though, the cleaning instructions are in the manual. Cleaning products damage the fire retardants and weaken the webbing on the straps. At best, surface wipe with non anti-bac dish soap. Cover can be hand washed, vinegar is best. Machine wash only if you have a front load (no agitator) and delicate cycle.
