too many toys

Hi ladies, So my DD turned one this week and my mom brought over two big, loud, plastic toys for her.  We live in a condo and have so many toys already.  I had suggested to her that she buy her a tea set or some melissa and doug wooden food sets but apparently she didn't like that idea....  So everything was opened while she was here but I really want to get rid of them.  Do you think it's really rude if I ask my mom to keep them at her house?  I can just see her calling me ungrateful.... what should I do with them?

Re: too many toys

  • Our general rule is that what the grandparents give for birthdays/christmas stays at their house unless it's something extra special or they really needed. My kids are at their houses at least once a week. I would just say something about storage space or your mom having more room for the baby to enjoy the toys. If you make sure to thank her and say how much the baby liked the gift and are upbeat I think it will be fine.

  • I dump off all of the toys that my mom buys Gator at her house.

Like the other ladies say, I put a positive spin on it so that way my mom gets excited about having the toys at her house. I tell her that due to having a ton of toys in the house, I would like them to stay at her house so that way she can actually SEE Gator play with the toys and enjoy them...instead of never getting to see Gator play with them and then her outgrowing them. Gator used to be there once a week but is now only there about 2-3 times a month.
