DD is 10 weeks and we switched her to size 1 at 8 1/2 weeks. She is still only just under 9lbs though and probably could have stayed but they were starting to leave red marks on her little legs.
We switched DS1 around 3 weeks. He was 7lbs 2oz at birth. DS2 we had to switch around 2 weeks, but he was almost 9lbs at that point and very long waisted.
At birth DS weighed 8lbs 11oz, so the hospital just started us off on 1's. We folded them over to avoid his stump, and that help them fit better. We returned the 2 packs of newborn diapers since we didn't even need them.
About a week---DS was 10 lb 6 oz when he was born. The nurses started using size 1 in the hospital. Basically we just used the one pack that we were given as a shower gift and moved DS back into the size 1.
DS will start wearing size 2 soon. We're just finishing up our size 1 diapers. DS is about 14 pounds. I tried putting a size 2 diaper on DS a couple of weeks ago, but it was too big in the legs. I tried a size 2 last night, and it fit.
DD is still in them now at 5 weeks and 8 pounds 5 oz. But I'm thinking of moving her to size 1s bc I don't want to buy another pack and not use them all.
i only used about 150 newborn diapers, i had 1 brand new pack of 8 and a friend gave me 1/2 a case from her granddaughter. i did not stock up on them because i was told i was going to have a 10# baby, but i ended up delivering a 7#6oz baby 2 wks early. the size 1 of pampers are big on him but the huggies fit just right. i am using pampers right now and they leave a bulge but i'm ok with it.
He never fit into newborn.. He was 9 lbs so he's started with size 1 and is now almost 3 months in size 2 diapers! I got A LOT of newborn diapers at baby showers... Never used them! Lol
Depends on how big they are when they are born, how fast they grow and their overall shape.
My DS was long and skinny(never had any baby fat rolls anywhere) but was perfectly healthy, etc. My DD is a more normal baby (not fat, but has a few rolls).

Now at 10lbs and 6 weeks I'm not opening another big case of 1s as I don't think she'll get through them.
Kid 1 wore 2s forever and Kid 2 was in 4s for a year. You really just can judge until you try them.
7lbs 13oz 20 inches long
Every baby is different.
My DS was in newborn diapers for about 15 weeks.
my DD was only in them for about 3.5 weeks.
