Adoption

Looking for some diaper bag advice!

An old friend of mine came out the woodwork offering to sew me a diaper bag and I am so excited about it (she even let me pick the pattern!), but she just moved and it is going to take a few weeks to unpack her sewing room.  So I'm looking to buy something used on ebay for our plane trip.  I want a big ol' bag with lots of room for everything we will need on the plane.  Lots of different compartments too!

Any recommendations?

Re: Looking for some diaper bag advice!

  • Are you someone that carries the "kitchen sink" with her??  I am...

I started w/the JuJuBe Be-All bag and it was too small.

I then bought the Petunia Pickle Bottom  Boxy Backpack.  I use it but don't love it.

I wish I would have gone w/either a soft Vera Bradly bag or a Timi and Leslie Bag... for VB they have a few diaper bags.. I esp like the Campus Tote... although it's not a baby bag.

Or the Timi and Leslie make bags that don't look like a diaper bag.  I esp like their "Jessica" bag.

Another option is just a great back pack.

It really depends on your personal style.

  • If you just need something for the plane I might suggest a backpack, especially for when you're on your way home with your little one I find it easier if DS is running around to be hands-free.  Messenger bags are okay but backpacks really distribute the weight well so the weight of it doesn't feel as annoying.

  • Agreeing w/PPs... something to keep in mind too... so many diaper bags are stiff.  Not conducive to shoving under the seat or overhead on plane.

  • I am not normally someone who carries a lot, but this is for the plane trip. We will be traveling for almost 24 hours so I need drinks, snacks, toys, space for my DSLR, a book, change of clothes, blanket, kindle, diapers, etc etc etc.  We are also carrying out stroller and ergo and then one small carry-on for DH and I.  That's it so I need something big to put everything in and keep my hands free.

I don't want a back-pack b/c I don't want pick-pocketers to be have access to our passports in an outside pocket.  And you know how often you have to pull those things out- they can't be buried either.

And I don't want something simple because I want all the different compartments so everything is tidy for the long journey.

So quick trying to talk me down all you practical moms.  I want my huge @$$ bag.  Wink

  • We got the Skip Hop Bento Tote - Olive from BRU mainly because of all the compartments, ability to throw onto the stroller (may help running between gates) and, to be perfectly honest, because it looked like a more "manly" diaper bag for DH.  It was his pick.  :)

It also comes with a few travel containers for snacks.

  • I have a Petunia Pickle Bottom Cake bag, which looks huge from the outside and is gorgeous, but there isn't actually that much room on the inside.  I would love a Jujube Be Prepared bag!

. We also have the skip hop Bento. Works great for us. Love all the pockets and plenty of space in the main compartment for her cloth diapers which take up way more room than disposables.

  • Lurker here :) I wear the Vera Bradley diaper bag. It's not huge, but is big. I love it because it has tons of pockets and compartments inside and outside. Very practical and even though it's super girlie my super manly DH will still sport it! Also, check out the VB weekender. I recently flew with it and it's huge but also has inside and outside pockets.

  • Thanks so much ladies!  I spent the night looking at youtube reviews of these because I'm cool like that and I found just the one I want- by fisher price of all things!  Now just to make the time to get to the closest retailer. :-)
