Half-hearted Parent rant

We want to tell my parents in person this weekend.  Our excuse for driving the 1/2 hour to their house to tell them in person was to get rid of a table and chairs (intended for my g-parent's apt move) sitting in our house that we no longer need after running errands in town (our running shoe store and Costco are in the same town).

I get a text from my mom saying she'd prefer to pick it up on Mon or Tues (my dad won't be there if that happens).

So then I ask her if she needs a case of water from Costco... No...

If I tell her we want to stop by for a few minutes, she's going to know and it'll ruin the surprise.

I'm sort of at the point where I want to stomp my foot on the ground and yell at her "You're ruining everything!! I just want it to be special!"  <- Definitely would never do this IRL.

Maybe we should just go and call when we're around the corner and say "oh, we were at the running store and thought it would be nice to stop by for a few minutes..."??

PS.  It's the first grandchild in our family and I refuse to say anything if both parents aren't there.

  • Just show up with something that you tried at Costco that you just knew they'd love.  Good luck!

  • We went over and, thankfully, they were both home.  We got the Little Critter books "Just Grandpa and Me" and Just Grandma and Me", put them in a gift bag with the u/s and told them we found something for them when we were in VT (We got the BFP as soon as we got back from VT).

They were a little confused when they saw the books and then when they realized what it meant, my dad got really excited and started hugging us and my mom started crying and hugging us.

It was perfect.  :)   They were so happy and surprised.  It was awesome  :)  Yay!

  • That is such a cute and special way to tell them the news! I so wanted to do a special in-person reveal with my mom but I am so horrible at keeping secrets and could not contain my excitement long enough to wait til I went to visit her. Congrats!

  • So glad to hear this worked out for you!  We're telling tomorrow and I almost went through the same thing.  My mom said my dad would come after work...but he would be the only parent not here for the reveal.  I pulled the ole "Can dad come before work with you bc I need him to taste the pasta sauce for the ziti?

Yay for your reveal : )
