  • Have you tried the pedi's suggestions?

Can you sit with him?  It sounds like he gets worked up, and having you with him might help.

so it will be two babies i'm going to try and ride with him as much as I can but last time our friends baby had major seperation anxiety so we had to switch seats from front to back. the other time he puked and I was there with him the whole time. i believe the crying is coming from knowing he is about to vomit because that is how I know its about to come

  • I had horrible carsickness as a kid. I puked in every car my parents owned. :(. Benadryl is what the would give me and it would make me sleepy and I wouldn't get sick. Even now I still prefer to drive or sit in the passenger seat because sitting in the back makes it worse. Carsickness sucks!

  • Block his view out the window. Put a tea towel or something, looking at the outside passing by like that doesn't help. My niece was/is like this, and it helped big time. Just make sure your mirrors are adjusted properly, since you're creating a blind spot. Rf/ff makes no difference, but this does.
  • They do make a children's dramamine. I don't know much about it but it is worth looking into/asking your pedi.

I wouldn't block his outside view. I get motion sick anytime I ride in the back seat (or on a plane, or on a ship) and it's so much worse if I can't see out. (as in, sure to puke if I can't see out) Do you let him look at books in the car? Reading makes my motion sickness about 100x worse.

I would definitely try to the suggestions that your pedi gave you. Smelling orange does help me some, as does dramamine or benadryl. Another thing that helps me is sucking on a mint, but since your ds is so young I don't know if there's a safe alternative for that.

  • I would go with pedi's suggestion and bring a couple oranges.

  • My DD get major car sick and still does at almost 4. No milk, no apple sauce, no eggs, no yogurt. He does better with a LITTLE apple juice or water and plain food like Cheerios or bread. I bought the wrist bands but only used them once so I cannot say how well they work.

And I think the Benedryl as a solution to anything but allergies is crappy parenting?

Oh and I would never block the view bc that is 99.9 guaranteed to make it worse. Sea sickness is mostly bc you cannot get your bearings but looking at land or the horizons helps and sea sickness is just a different form of motion sickness. I would actually teach kids to look straight out the window. Actually I am wondering if the above poster means to block the sides, I guess that could possibly help bc looking out the sides can add to disorientation...I get car sick too but have not thrown up since I was a kid.

  • No movies at night and I would bring pretzels for him to eat to keep his stomach calm.  I would also crack the window for fresh air.  Even in the bitter cold.

  • What about those sea band things? I think they make them for kids. I get VERY sea sick and had to go a boat a few times and those help tremendously!
