Short version: Charlie Alexandra was born at 3:17 on 10/17. She weighed 6lbs 4oz and was 19.75".
Long version:
At 9pm on Tuesday (Just as the presidential debate came on), I started having regular contractions. By 9:30 they were getting more intense and were about 5 minutes apart. After having 2 false alarms the week before I was convinced that they would just go away and decided to stay home and watch the debate. When the debate ended at 11pm I was still having regula contractions so I called my midwife and she told me to drink some water, wait half an hour, and call back if they were still 5 minutes or less apart or got more intense. I called back at 11:30. The contractions were about 4 minutes apart at that point and more intense. She told me to come on in. I called my mom to stay with the big kids (still convinced this was another false alarm). We finally got to the hospital at 1am.
After putting me on the monitor for about half an hour my midwife checked me and said I was only 2cm dilated. My midwife told me to walk around or get in the shower for awhile to see if we could get things moving enough to admit me and she would check me again at 3:15. I took a hot shower and came back out having really intense contractions but it was only about 2:15. I rolled around on the hospital bed for about half an hour and DH noticed blood on the sheets. He called for the nurse. I told her I really wanted to get in the tub (I was planning on a water birth but couldn't get in the tub until 5cm). She called the midwife to check me. I was 8cm!!!!
They ran the tub for me and and I got in at about 3am. Instant relief. At 3:15 my water broke, at 3:16 I said I had to push, she was born at 3:17! Wow! That was fast!
She is absolutely perfect and we are so much in love. We are both doing great. They actually authorized an early discharge for us since we were doing so good (and I was going to stab the next dr/nurse/housekeeper who came in and woke her up). As of her DR appointment this morning she had only lost 2oz. She is nursing like a champ.
Thank you ladies so much for all your support! Especially to my labor buddy kbhaynes for keeping me sane. I will be stalking you ladies over here and waiting your arrivals on PAL.
Now for some pictures.
