Best Baby on the Block

Hi!

I haven't had my baby yet but I took a class based on Dr Karp's Happiest Baby on the Block book.   To all you experienced moms... did any of you use that book/video and has it helped?

    I have a 5 week old. The 5 S's help a lot to calm him down unless he's upset because he's hungry. There's only one solution for that. Most of the time I skip swaddling and use the other 4 together.

    I swear by his method! We watched his DVD on the book last year when DS #1 was born and it helped SO much. We are doing it again this time around with #2 and again, it has been great!

    Smart girl, wish I'd read this before our baby was born!  It was a lifesaver for us, especially the SHHHing (the key for our guy is to do it, as Karp says, "with vigour"-- harshly, not gently).  It may look like I'm being mean when I start harshly SHHing my crying baby but it calms him right down and he loves it.

    Alo loved 'the "jello head" jiggle when he was smaller, it would put him right to sleep combined with the SHHing.

    To me, the book was just him touting how wonderful he was and I found it obnoxious. The video was extremely helpful and I would get that, not the book.

    Haha, I totally agree about the book! The information was good but the writing was horrible.
