Driving after C/S

I had a repeat c/s two weeks ago today...went to the OB for a follow-up/scar check appt...everything is looking good and I'm feeling good...I saw just the nurse practitioner today and when I asked about driving she said I should wait another week or two.

I think I was given the clear after 2 weeks with my DD so just assumed it would be the same...not that I plan to drive far...just would be nice to run to Target or some of the other stores that are only about 3 miles away.

Just curious what everyone else was told about driving?

Re: Driving after C/S

  • I had my 2 week appt on Wednesday and driving was the only thing that I was cleared for.

I still can't lift anything heavier than 10 pounds, no relations (as the dr put it) and no exercise other than short walks

  • I've been told after both c/s that driving was fine at 2 weeks as long as I was no longer taking the narcotic pain meds.

  • OB told me 2 weeks, or after I stopped pain meds...I had my cs on the 2nd, stopped taking my meds on the 10th, and was driving on the 12th.

This - after 2 weeks, or whenever I stopped pain meds.

  • Thanks ladies...I have no idea why she said to wait another 1 - 2 weeks...I've only taken ibuprofen since last Saturday and really only 3 a day (if that)..the nurse did say she saw a really small part of my scar that was pink and looked like it had vey mild drainage so maybe she is just being cautious...I just assumed I'd be cleared for that today...
  • DD was born on 12/17 I came home 12/19 I drove DD and myself to my follow up appt on 12/23.

I was not on any medicines anymore and felt fine. My staples were starting to come out on their own, DH was at work and if I didn't get into the office I would have to wait till after the holidays. So I packed us up and we headed the whole 7 min to my OB's office. He was a little shocked that I did that but said if I felt ok and wasn't on pain meds he was ok with it.

  • I was told 2 weeks,or no use of pain killers and ability to stomp on break if needed, whichever came first.
  • I was also cleared for driving at two weeks as long as I felt strong enough and wasn't taking narcotics.

  • I was told 2 weeks with both my children but both times I am not quite comfortable driving yet. Plus this time I had a second surgery because my bladder tore during delivery/surgery. So I am taking it easy this time with lifting/driving.

  • I wasn't restricted on my driving but I also didn't take any pain meds after leaving the hospital.
