I have the worst luck with getting flats to fit my feet. a 7 1/2 is too tight and an 8 flops on my foot which makes me angry and is annoying cause I walk with my toes curled up. Any suggestions? Would an instert work? Also, some flats just seem so flimsy and others remind me of "old lady" shoes. Can you give me some recommendations? I will probably still wear Jeans and sneakers occasionally but I am trying to polish my look, and not so SAH and never go anywhere Momish,
Re: going back to the sneakers with jeans UO from yesterday.
I would try a size 8 with an insole. I am in a similar boat with you.My feet got bigger after my pregnancy
I was a comfortable 7.5 and now I'm somewhere in between 7.5 and 8. My pre-pregnancy flats are a little tight but I squeeze because they're cute and I'm cheap :P Plus I just keep telling myself eventually they'll go back to normal. (It's been a year so realistically not.) Anyhow, I bought my boots this year a size 8 and wear thick socks or an insole in them :-)
Meh- I'll always wear sneakers and jeans. I don't consider it "momish" because it is actually the dress code at my DH's office. And my father's office, as a matter of fact (he is a VP of a very known company). It was the Friday dress code in my old office. And everyone wore sneakers and jeans that day. So, it's not that weird to me and I certainly don't attribute it to SAHMs.
But if you are looking for flats, I'd advise looking for more substantial ones with support. No need to destroy your arch, back, and muscles in the name of looking polished! :-) It's a matter of trying everything and when you find a brand that works, stick with them. I have very narrow feet and it's difficult for me to find brands that fit me.
I think I read somewhere that when your feet grow with pregnancy, they stay that way. I went up a size when DS was born 5 years ago and I am still that size even though I was back into my pre-pregnancy clothes quickly. I ended up finally getting rid of all of my old shoes and buying all new ones.
If you can find them, wear flats that have a strap. I have a hard time keeping flats on too, and that is the only thing that works for me.
Just search around for "mary jane" style flats. I think Zappos has that option.
I don't hate the sneakers with jeans look, but I just feel so out of place peicing my wardrobe together. I've practically been wearing the same maternity clothes for nearly 7 years. In my last part time job I wore dress pants with sneakers. had to dress up, but since it was a nursing home you had to wear sneakers.
I had an internship at a place like that! Dress pants and sneakers were required. It was an experience.
Since I was the one who started all of this, I'll chime in. The flat shoes I currently have are Clarks (which I'd consider my most comfortable practical shoe, I'd wear them anytime I need to do a fair amount of walking), flat Franco Sartos (comfortable, just a little more dressy than Clarks), a pair of patent leather Franco Sartos (my most - favorite - dressy jean shoe, not meant for the park or rain as most of the top of my foot is expose and I go sockless in them) and a pair of slip on Sketchers without laces (this is as far as I'd go with a sneaker/jean combination, definitely my least favorite pair of shoes right now but I wear them to the park and that's about it).
As far as comfort, have you tried Clarks? They do make a lot of"sensible shoes that aren't super cute but they do have some that are cute and comfortable. If you buy a 7.5, maybe have them stretched at a shoe repair store? I've had that done with shoes because 8 is sometimes too tight in a spot but 8.5 is much too big. It only costs a few bucks and it really helps a lot.
I like Privos--they're more like a tennis shoe/flat crossover. I have a pair like this: https://www.zappos.com/privo-by-clarks-imprint-mast, but mine don't have that blue contrast stitching (I'm not a fan of that). I've been wearing the pair for a few years now! I just realized that they're made my Clarks like Mrs. Greg suggested. I like to find good quality for less at Nordstrom Rack.
But I do wear my New Balance with pants if going to the park etc...I'm in the Pacific NW and it gets wet/muddy.

God, I just bought two pairs of black flats for work - after buying and return 1,000 of them from Zappos - and they both sorta suck and hurt! aaaaargh. My feet are wide, and one is a bit bigger than the other, so I've resigned myself to not ever finding a pair that doesn't hurt.
I have these in gray: https://www.zappos.com/minnetonka-kilty-suede-moc-taupe-suede?zlfid=111&recoName=zap_pdp_sub, and they are wonderful, though not good winter shoes. They also stretch, so I bought them a full size smaller than my usual size.
