VBAC

1st. Baby vaginal delivery, 2nd csection..... Should I go for vac?

Going back n forth. Both have pros n cons! I love the delivery of a vaginal delivery, but am nervous of a rupture.

  • I had the same situation. I had a difficcult vaginal delivery with my first and ended up having a c-section with my second (failure to progress). For #3 I decided to do a VBAC and it was definitely worth it. There is always a risk of rupture, but the risk is quite small. I loved being able to take care of my other children right away. Also, because I had a previous vaginal delivery, things went a lot quicker and smoother than my first delivery.

  • I had the same scenario and went for the VBAC the third time.  Knowing how much easier the recovery was after my first birth as compared my second (cs) birth was what made up my mind on it.  I have absolutely no regrets - i love my VBAC birth.  As for the risk of rupture, the way I looked at it is that once you have a cs there are added risks with subsequent births no matter which way you go.  The risks associated with VBAC occur less frequently then the risk associated with a rcs and the risks go up with each subsequent cs and with each subsequent pregnancy.  We don't know that we're done having kids yet so that was a big deal for me.
  • While I "get" that people are afraid of rupture, people forget that you can rupture even if you've never had a c/s.  And you can rupture whether or not you are planning a RCS.  And there are some major risks that go with a RCS (including death) that people never seem to be concerned with.

All of that said, if it were me, I'd go with a VBAC because my recovery was so much easier with the vaginal birth.  But you need to decide which is best for you.

  • I'm planning on going for a VBAC as long as this LO cooperates.  DD1's delivery was so quick and reasonably easy.  While DD2's c/s wasn't as bad as I expected, I'd still rather avoid a RCS.
