Just got back from the hospital with DS. He was running a fever of 103 with no other symptoms, so I took him in. The doctor didn't see any sign of an ear infection or any other problem, so he thinks it is a viral infection. He told me to give him tylonel and keep him well hydrated, but that is about it. Any other suggestions to make him comfortable? Unfortunately, the language barrier makes it hard to talk to the doctor at times, and I can't go see an American doc until Monday.
Re: Hospital visit
Poor guy! Well, my doc just told us that anything between 100-103 is a beneficial fever. The body's fighting off something. But, if he has no other symptoms, what do you want to make more comfortable for DS? DD was just running 102 with really no other symptoms for a week (then a couple things surfaced like a yeast infection and slight diarrhea) but even with those, she was pretty happy so we didn't do anything besides tylenol/advil to make her comfy. She seemed fine.
Is DS giving you any indication he needs to be more comfy? If not, just follow his cues. You may not need to do anything. Sometimes, these things are harder on us than they are on them.
Hang in there, mama!

Our doctor said to try liquid of any kind, even juices, Popsicles, etc. because we had to keep him hydrated. Rotate Tylenol and Motrin as needed. Mainly DS just slept in my arms a lot when I could get him to sleep and ate whatever for about 5 days. Which meant a lot of applesauce and grapes. Other than just keeping him happy as possible, there is not much you can do. Hope he feels better soon!
When DD1 had a fever of 103 we took her in and they couldn't find anything wrong. I alternated Tylenol and Motrin. I kept her in cool clothing and gave her lukewarm baths. She ended up having Roseola. She had the fever for 3 days and then developed a rash on her torso once the fever broke.

My DS had pneumonia this week. His fever went up and down for four days. It hovered around 103.9 most of the time. His breathing was faster than normal so I brought him in. They did a chest X-ray and that is how they diagnosed him with pneumonia.
Thanks for all the replies. I just get a little frustrated at times having to see a German doctor, even though the healthcare is fantastic. I will probably just let DS have all types of liquids from a bottle since we are still working on a sippy cup so he can stay hydrated. I will also try the pedialyte pops if I can find them. This is DS's first fever, and I just feel so bad for him. Thankfully DH is off this weekend and will be able to help with him. I think we will spend the weekend just cuddling with DS.
Yup a cooler than usual bath works well. OP, I hope your LO gets better soon and that no one else gets sick!
This is what our pedi says, too. Hope LO feels better soon!
