Prenatal yoga at a breastfeeding store

I am getting ready to start prenatal yoga at this breastfeeding store in Montgomery. Has anyone taken prenantal yoga before? I have never taken any yoga classes but they say you do not need any experience. This is my 4th pregnancy and I want to do the best I can as this is my last! My goal is to stay in shape and prepare for what I hope to be a natural childbirth. I am what they call AMA (old pregnant mom) Surprise my sisters find it funny that I am considered old. I keep telling them I am still younger than they are!Stick out tongue

Wish me luck as I start this class in a few weeks. I am super excited. I have gained weight already and this will be all I WILL gain! This mama is taking prenatal yoga...and getting in shape for this long pregnancy. I am just now turning 8 weeks. Seems like I have been pregnant fr years now... No energy, no get up and go! Any advice? I hope yoga will do the trick.

  • I started doing yoga (not prenatal just regular) around the same time that I found out I was pregnant and I really enjoy it. I will agree that you don't need any experience to get a lot out of it and I really enjoy having that time to relax and meditate for a while. Our studio is nice and dark w/ lavender oil sprayed for a nice calm scent and its just really calm and nice. I've just been modifying as I go and it's important to remember to not over stretch though- when pregnant your body releases more relaxin hormone which makes you more prone to overdoing it on accident.

As for the no energy- I still have none and don't think I will get any back until I'm done having kids haha Between the pregnancy and taking care of a very active toddler and infant I am exhausted regardless of how good I eat or how much I exercise. I hope you enjoy your class though and if nothing else have an hour to relax by yourself!

I don't mind that you post about this store, as I'm sure it's a great resource for local mamas (in fact, I intend to check it out, myself) - but please fess up as to whether or not you're working for them. I know you started posting about them a really long time ago when we still had an active board, and that seems to be all you talk about.

Again, I don't care if you're a vendor here, because BFing support is very important, but it drives me batty when they try to hide it.

  • Try myYogaCo in Hyde park off Erie. It is the former Shine location which is now run by one of the teachers. Kate is amazing and I love how I feel when I get finished. She also takes the time to ask each person what they need to work on and makes it a point to hit as many aches and pains. I feel it in my body if I miss a week of class. Pre-natal classes are Wednesday nights and Saturday. It has been a great escape to be in a class with others going through similar aches as I am. It truly is a 'community' which is what the CO stands for in the name. Love it!!
