Hospital Gift?

A girlfriend of mine is in the process of delivinerg today (lucky b****) and I plan to go visit her and the baby tomorrow. I had already gotten her a gift off her reigstry, but what should I bring to the hospital for her/baby? Should I get flowers or a little stuffed animal or something for her AND baby? What have you gotten as a little gift when you delivered that really liked?

  • I enjpyed the gift of food. Hospital food sucks. My mom brought me apples she had gotten from an orchard. I thought that was fantastic.
  • I'd say chocolate and a few trashy magazines.

This!  And I love the suggestion of coffee and donuts.  I think I'd rather have someone bring food to my house once I'm home with the baby than bring me stuff at the hospital.

  • My favorite was donuts!!! Or whatever kind of treats she likes, coffee, cinnabon, cake, anything...

  • We had friends bring us some snacks and we sooo appreciated it!  I did have a C-section though so we were there for a few days.

  • Ask her partner what she wants to eat or drink. Bring it to her.

I'd avoid anything she has to pack to bring home. Fresh flowers are generally frowned upon in hospitals, I thought... bc of allergies.

When I'm in the hospital, I don't want anyone to bring anything that makes my trip home difficult. good for your friend for being open to hospital visitors. I don't think I'll be open at all. Too big of a  family.

  • Definitely food. Cookies or her favorite snack - something easy to take home that can be eaten in the hospital. Lunch or dinner is a really nice gesture as well.

  • I agree with the coffee!  The best gift came from DH the morning after I delivered - a grande Starbucks coffee!

We received flowers and gift bags filled with clothing from DH's sister, mother and uncles - it was a pain in the neck to bring home.  We had so much stuff it was such a pain to carry out.

  • Our best gifts have been meals that people have brought after we came home. Tomorrow we have been home a week and I have not had to worry about what's for dinnmer yet. If you must bring something to the hospital I would say something for Mom, like chocolates or cookies if she likes sweets if she is cleared to eatcsection Mommas have to pass gas
before they are cleared to eat solids. I had DD at 7:30 am and was not cleared until 11:30 pm the following night or maybe some nice lotion or shower gel if you know what scent she prefers. With DD1 a friend brought a bottle if wine which was also nice. Flowers and balloons are a pain to lug
    home.
