hi ladies!
So, yesterday we got back from Florida - we were there for 6 days (Orlando & Fort Lauderdale). This is my daughter's 8th trip to Florida (my husband's family lives there) so while she has traveled a bunch, she's never been great at adjusting to sleeping while away.
This trip was no different. The first 2 days were great (albeit early mornings) but by the 3rd day, sleeping was horrible and napping was worse. She would only nap on someone and woke up multiple times a night. We resorted to letting her eventually sleep in our bed but she never adjusted to that and was excited to see us both sharing a bed with her.
Mind you - my DD has slept 11-12 hours and napped twice a day basically perfectly (with of course some set-backs) the past few months. So this was so frustrating to go backwards.
We got home last night and she cried hysterically, then threw up twice (I think from crying so hard) and basically would only sleep if I rocked her in my glider. She loves her crib - this is insane.
I guess being 26 weeks pregnant has me completely emotional but I'm so lost - I feel like I need to completely re-sleep train her and I'm exhausted and terrified. I'm going to start tonight but i'm so nervous - like dreading bedtime which I've NEVER done - she's gone to sleep perfectly for months upon months.
Can someone just tell me it'll be okay? I'm semi-sure I'm going insane. lol thanks ladies.
Re: Sleep post-travel disaster. Help. :(
Oh man... I'm so sorry! DD wasn't a great sleeper in the beginning and finally became one a few months ago. I would be so upset if I were you too! First of all, Everything WILL be ok! Your DD got out of her normal sleep habits in just a few days. She'll get back in her old sleep habits just as quickly! You might have to do some sleep training, but hopefully it will be easier and faster than the last time you did it.
I hope she is back to sleeping through the night soon. You need your rest, too!
Yes, I know what you're going through all too well! We sleep trained at 7 months, and he became a great sleeper. Then we went to France for a month when he was 10-11 months old. Combine jet lag with a new place and he was a terrible sleeper while we were there. I also created bad habits by going in and nursing him every time he woke up because my parents were with us and I didn't want to wake them.
When we got back, it took a while for his sleep to get back into the groove. We basically had to sleep train again, which sucked. But he went back to being a good sleeper again. And when we went on our next two trips, he did better. I hate disrupting his routine, but in a way I figure it helps him become more flexible for the next time. Hopefully.
Anyway, all that to say that we've been there and it was hard but we came out of it! You will too!
