ER visit for cramping: better safe than sorry

I feel silly. I went to the ER after experiencing cramps, tightness, and slight back pain for 4 hours this afternoon.

Early Braxton Hicks. **sigh** Duh.

In my defense, I never had them with DD, so I had no idea they could feel so... REAL. (Those things are no joke-- I really thought something was wrong.)

Here's to 25 weeks of my uterus toning it up. Beer<--- (ginger ale)  LOL

Anybody else feeling them early/earlier than last time?

  • I started getting BH right around the same time as you when I was pregnant with DD2.  I never got them with DD1, just like you.  I think it's just our bodies going, "Oh, we're pregnant.  I got this.  Getting ready in advance this time."

Thank you for posting this. I had the same cramping and tightness today and was so worried, I almost went to the ER. I didn't realize BH could start this early and I never had them with DS either.

I only went to the ER because

    1) They lasted 4 hours and didn't go away with chugging water, changing my position, or moving around

    and

    2) It involved back pain, which is (apparently) one of the differences between BH and early labor/mc pains.

I'm not an expert on this subject. I didn't have a single moment of natural laboring with DD. Don't be afraid to call your OB. I did, and they told me to go in.

  • Scary!!! Thank you for sharing. I didn't know the difference between BH and real contractions.

  • I never had them with my first either so I'm sure I'll freak out if it happens this time! Glad everything is ok!

  • Glad everything is ok! Sorry you had to spend time at the ER to find that out, though. Smile

I had tons of BH with DS but they never hurt in my back. That would have worried me too and like I said - I've had them Wink.

  • I haven't had the yet, but I started having real contractions with DD at 29 weeks. I would have definitely went to the hospital if I were you. Better safe than sorry. I'm glad to hear that everything is okay!
