rec your convertable carseat

Our LO is getting too long for the infacnt carrier, I think he'll last another month or two...but that will probably be it.  I have a Hyundai Santa Fe and DH has a Toyota Solara (although I'm thinking we're going to be getting rid of his once we get this car seat and he realizes how hard it is with a 2-door).  Safety and Ease of use are at the top of the list.  Thanks!

  • Love love love our britax boulevard. I've never heard anyone complain about it either.

  • I'm going to complain about our Britax Boulevard....DD is only 20 months old and has almost outgrown it!!  Since looking into it, this seems to be a common issue for tall toddlers and there are lots of complaints out there about toddlers outgrowing their seats early.  On the other hand, my 4 year old nephew is small enough that he still fits safely in a marathon.

I wish we would have bought a radian.

  • If you want something that will last a long time RF'ing, the Graco Size4me 70 has the tallest shell of any convertible on the market currently. The Diono Radian is a close second, and it's great too.

  • The Graco Size4Me (MySize 70 at BRU) has the absolute highest height limit on the market, but only RF to 40lbs.  Great option for tin-to-average kids since most seats are outgrown by height way before weight.

The Clek Foonf (which should be appearing in stores within the next few months but can be preordered) has a pretty high shell and it was recently revealed that it will RF to 50lbs.  Good for kids who are on the higher end of the weight curve for their height.

The Radian has a high shell and RFs to 45lbs.  A lot of people (including me) like this seat since it has a very low profile and is pretty thin, which makes it great for smaller cars.

These are just a few points but the absolute safest carseat is the seat that you can install properly in the car and is used correctly 100% of the time.   I also recommend going to a buybuybaby, babies r us, or a local babystore with a large selection of seats and trying them out in your car to see what works best for y'all.

  • I initially decided to go with the Size4Me 70 by Graco because of it having the highest shell on the market.  I ended up HATING that seat.  It was easy to install but the harness adjuster strap (between the legs like most infant seats) was VERY difficult to tighten.  It took me tugging on it 15-20 times and I was still unable to get it properly tightened.  DH tried and was finally able to get it tightened but after doing some googling and looking on car-seat.org, I found that it was a common complaint with that seat.  I ended up returning it.

We ultimately went with the Symphony 65 e3 and LOVE it.  Easy to install, DS looks comfy, you don't have to rethread the harness straps when it's time to adjust them.

  • We picked out the Radian RXT for our LO even though we would need it for a long while yet.  I figured I'd put it on our registry just in case someone feels like spending $$. :)

  • Ditto what dreadloc said.

We have a radian, love it. It's great for tight spaces and small cars, which we can and have done.

  • I want to love the S4M, but it has issues. I am on my 2nd one and it still has issues. I am having a conference call tomorrow with an engineer from Graco to see what they have to say about it.

I would be interested in hearing what issues you're having with it. I really wanted to love that seat too but due to the harness issues, I wasn't comfortable with him in it because it just never felt like it got tight enough.  We aren't near a BuyBuyBaby so I couldn't return it easily and needed a convertible seat ASAP so bought one at BRU instead of waiting for Graco to send out a different Size4Me for me to try.

Harness issues. Not tightening tight enough, not tightening evenly and then tonight while making a few videos for them we discovered that the harness adjuster is sometimes sticking, which is causing the harness to release on its own.

I made 6 videos tonight, and I am in the process of uploading them for Graco. I am having another conference call with them on Friday morning.

Thanks for responding!  I'm sorry you're having issues with it but I am glad to hear that I wasn't crazy and the harness was wonky!  I ended up returning it directly to Graco and am waiting on a refund from them.  I really LOVED this seat on paper but so disappointed when it arrived and I played around with it.
