TTC After a Loss

Fluttering in abdomen? (Not an am I pg question)

I'm hoping that someone has experienced this and can maybe tell me what it is. I've been having this pulsing, fluttering type feeling in the centre of my lower abdomen. It's not enough to see or feel on the outside, but it's there all of the time. It doesn't feel like bowel stuff to me (but I do have some mild IBS). Is this something that can come from a m/c? I haven't had AF yet since my m/c (6 weeks ago), could my body be "trying" to get it going? I have to phone my doctor tomorrow at some point for something else, so I will probably ask, but I was just wondering if any of you have experienced this. Thanks ladies.

  • I experienced this for several months after my m/c., I never asked about it because in all honesty I thought I was crazy. I just stopped a month ago, if that. I am really curious what your doctor says!

  • It is probably your abdominal aorta. Sometimes I can feel the pulse of mine. If it is accompanied by lightheadedness or any other abnormal symptoms I would go to you md or er ASAP. But it's probably just what you are feeling and may be more noticeable because you are focusing on this area if your body since the mc.

  • Never had this sensation.  During my 1st pregnancy I felt a strong pulsation but only if I would lay on my stomach. However now after the D&C 1 week before I started AF I had a very sharp pain on my left side, worse when I would sneeze.  I have this same pain again  & left sided and really only severe with a sneeze. AF should return in a week, so maybe this is going to be a sign of my new "normal"

Good luck, hope you get something figured out. As a  PP mentioned it could be the abdominal aorta.

  • Warning 10yro DS mentioned

I feel this everynow and then.  Enough for me to remember it, but not like everyday.  I have never given it much thought, just figured it was gas.  I can compare the "flutters" with movement my DS who is 10 now made in the womb.  I remember mentioning it to my dr right after he was born.  She didn't make a big deal about it just said something to the effect that it was my body remembering.  But at this point 10 years later, I am leaning toward gas.  Still sucks though.  I probably wasn't any help at all. Sorry.

It could be several things. We seem to be more in tune with our bodies after a loss and so we notice more than we used to.

I know that when I felt a fluttering, it was my uterus and the ligaments and muscles around it slowly shrinking back down to non-pregnant size. (At least that's why my doctor told me.)

It could just be muscle twinges, it could be the precursor to AF (or AF cramps), it could be stomach stuff even though it feels different. Like I said, it really could be any number of things.

I hope you get answers from your doctor tomorrow.

See this makes sense to me. It feels almost like my body is "trying" to do something (have AF perhaps) and it just isn't working. May be things just returning to their proper places and sizes.

My docs office is crazy right now, so I can't get in to see her for another couple of weeks (have a couple of things to discuss), but I talked to her nurse. Sometimes I like this nurse, sometimes I do not. She said that it is probably just because I am more in tune with my body now. But this is not true. Because I danced my whole life, and because I have suffered from anxiety for so long, I know darn well what my body is doing at any given time. Which is why this whole thing is so frustrating. So if I get any better answer when I actually see the doctor, I'll let you know.

I'm sorry the nurse wasn't more helpful. I hope you are able to get answers when you do go to the doctor.

    Thank you :)
