Screeching

Do any of you have a screecher? My DS has developed this high pitched, break your eardrums, soul piercing scream. That he does for.no.reason.at.all! He's not in pain, bored or hungry. Sometimes he does it randomly during playtime. DH and I just say, "shhhh, quiet!" in a calm voice or redirect with a toy to no avail. It's killing us! Any suggestions?

Re: Screeching

  • DS has been doing that a lot recently. Today I have a headache, so anytime he does it I cringe, it hurts so bad. We calmly tell him to stop or indoor voice. But then he'll do it randomly when we're out, at people he sees.

  • DD has started doing it at meal times, and it is really annoying.  When DS went through this phase we actively ignored him.  He stopped even trying after a week or so. We'll see how long it takes DD to stop.

  • DH isn't very good at ignoring, but I will have to stress not to reward his behavior with attention.  We will see.  Glad to know I'm not the only one!  It kills me on my migraine days......

  • DS went through this and is pretty much out of it. We completely ignored it unless we were out to eat or something and then we just took him out of the high chair and entertained him on our laps. He still does it occasionally, but it's not nearly as often as before.

  • No screeching but a lot of whining lately.  It's really annoying and I hope it stops.  I try to ignore it and when she does it, I don't give her what she wants.

  • DD has been doing this more and more, and its very annoying! She gets so high pitched it actually hurts my ears. I just ignore her, she doesn't do it too often, I just hope she doesn't start doing it in public!

  • Yep.  He loves to hear himself and the louder, the better.

My family all jokes and call his noises "alien noises".   My favorite is when we are out in public and he does it, it's too funny to see other people respond.

But yes, my head usually hurts by the time DH walks in from work.. or 10:00 a.m...

  • My lil man just gets louder if we ignore him!
