Babies: 9 - 12 Months

your LO's biggest bottle (in oz)

What is the biggest bottle your LO takes or has taken in one sitting in the past? I'm mostly just curious.

I've always hesitated to let DS take more than 9 oz at one time, but I can't honestly say why. I guess I've always thought any more than that would stretch his stomach and make him used to being too full.

Am I nuts?

  • 7oz

And that was only to see if she would drink it all and sleep longer at night.  Didn't work :)

  • 8oz.

I've never heard of giving more than 9oz, or even giving 9oz for that matter. I don't even think any of the bottles that I've seen hold more than 9.

  • My DD's biggest bottle is usually the first one in the morning- anywhere from 6-8 oz.  The rest of the day she gets 6oz bottles and sometimes she drinks it all and sometimes she only drinks 4oz.  She is starting to get more and more solids.  Always yogurt and fruit at lunch.

  • There have been times during growth spurts she had 8 ounces and wanted more, so like 10 minutes later, she had another 2 or so. So 10.
  • my 10.5 month old has 4 8 oz bottles a day, but sometimes he only takes 5-6 from the last one.

We use Dr. Brown's so I don't even think it will hold 9 ounces.  For his last bottle before bed, I use 7 ounces of water which translates to about 7.5-8ish ounces of fluid after the formula is mixed in.

ETA: We just had DS' 9 month checkup yesterday.  I talked to the pedi a lot about feeding.  At this age, I don't think LO should go long enough without eating so that he's hungry enough for 9+ounces.  DS gets 5 bottles, but he also gets breakfast, lunch, dinner (a jar of puree for each) and then a snack.  Between that and the bottles, there really isn't too much time between eating.

The pedi recommended starting to introduce more solids (gradually).  By the time they are a year old, he said specifically that their eating patterns should closely resemble our own eating patterns.  So breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a few snacks.

My DS could eat all day and still want 8 or 9 oz at bedtime.

  • LO has 8 oz bottles during the day and a 13 oz bottle at night plus breastfeeding!  Surprisingly he's a lean baby, 75% in weight and 97% for height.
