  I would not do the IUI without an ultrasound.

  I don't have any personal experience with this since I am going to have my first IUI next week, but I asked a similar question the other day and the consensus was that most people would not feel comfortable skipping the ultrasound.  I would talk with your doc about you concerns though, maybe he/she has valid reasoning why it would be ok.

  I would definitely want the ultrasound. OPK's can be unreliable, and unless you are 100 covered, I would want the ultrasound.

  Why not just ultrasound and then do the IUI?  I don't get the point of RE saying you should skip.  To save $?  On the other hand, I think if you are using a good OPK (like Clearblue Fertility Monitor) you can probably be pretty confident that you are about to ovulate.

  2/2013 TI w/ hormonal support, prednisone, aspirin, Lovenox, acupuncture gave us a miracle BFP #5!
  Heartbeat on U/S at 6w1d! Baby,please stay!!

  Our miracle baby boy arrived 10/2013!  We are so in love!!

  
  

  10/2014 Surprise BFP #6

  I would 100% insist on the u/s. I would want to know how many follicles are mature in case there are 1) too many or 2) they aren't mature yet and you need to stim more.
