Started Zofran today... kinda nervous about it

I'm 8 weeks today and have been having awful nausea and vomiting since 5 weeks. I've tried saltines (gag,) preggie pops (no different than jolly ranchers, IMO,) ginger.... I've been miserable. So I finally bit the bullet today, called my Dr, and she called in a scrip for Zofran right then. I know they wouldn't prescribe it if it was like, totally toxic, but I am still nervous about taking it (I took the first one about 15 minutes ago.)

Anyone else have experience with this med? Advice? TIA!

  • It's perfectly safe.  Hope it helps!

  • it's safe safe safe!

It's what they give babies when they are puking too much for their own good. (my DS had to take it for a while...)

I took it in the last pregnancy with DD.  My only advice - start taking colace! Zofran plugs you up like weeks of only eating cheese.

Prunes, Metamucil, and nuts/seeds will quickly become your new best friends.

  • I've been taking it around the clock for about 2 weeks now....it really helps me!  I'm a nurse and we give this to all our patients getting chemo....it's one the best anti- nausea meds out there.  Don't worry it's totally safe for you and little babe:)

  • I've been taking colace ( docusate sodium) you can get it over the counter...this has helped me although things are not the same as they were pre-pregnancy.

  • I've been on it for 6 weeks now. I'm not sure where I would be without it.

ETA: Some say Zofran causes constipation. I have no idea if it does or not because I was extremely constipated prior to taking the zofran.

  • Ive been taking it for a few weeks now too and its been an absolute lifesaver.  They let me take 3 8mg pills a day.

  • Ditto what everyone said about taking Stool Softner. I learned the heard way and ended up with an impaction. Not a good time. It really helped with the sickness though!

  • I was in your same situation with DD, nothing worked. So lying on the floor one day without a will to get up I called the dr and begged for Zofran... Lets just say the side effect was worse than the m/s. Two things for me but one of which I was prone to, headaches, watch out for those! Second was awful constipation! Make sure to drink TONS of water, and prune juice did the trick too.

Otherwise good luck and I hope it works for you! M/S is awful!!

  • I completely agree! I was also nervous about taking it until I spoke with a few mommy friends who had been prescribed it as well and have beautiful kids.

The relief was amazing until I realized the size effects of constipation. Drink your juice and find a fiber pill that works for you. I've had a lot of relief from Dulcolax and I found it doesn't irritate my sensitive stomach.

    Best Wishes :-)
