Pregnant after 35

Greetings! 35 and preggo with my 3rd

Quick intro: I'm 35 and at 5 weeks with my 3rd : ) I have a 6 year old & a 4 year old and quite frankly thought I was finished with babies ; ) My anxieties have to do with my age and the spacing of the kids which happened due to a health issue I had 2 years ago which prevented me from adding a 3rd back then.

I have Graves disease and was told that 1. I was lucky to have the kids I already have 2. having more in the future would be very difficult and most importantly that 3. I shouldn't even try for at least 1 year after having my radiation treatment to remove my thyroid. So naturally, my husband and I thought the baby factory was closed! Guess it's time for us to get a financial planner and a minivan ; )

Anybody out there with thyroid disease and AMA? Have you had to have special testing? Are you taking Synthroid? My first OB appointment is next week and she said I need to get with an endocrinologist asap.

  • Congratulations and welcome to the board! 35 is not all that old *sideeyes own siggy*, but I can see why you would be concerned because of your other medical issues. I don't have thyroid issues, but I'm sure someone who does will chime in. You could join your birth month board (Are you due in June?) and ask there as well.

    I wish you a H&H 9 months!

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • Hi!  I am 39 and 12 weeks pregnant with my third.  We have 5 & 6 year old boys.  I was also anxious about age, but then I had a CVS so that concern is now gone.  My husband is 41 and still anxious about having a baby "at our age" I tell him all the time he is not old, becasue if he is old then I must be old and I AM NOT OLD!  LOL!

I am also anxious with the spacing of the children; my husband isn't but I am.  I wanted to have a 3rd about 3 years ago but the timing was off with my husband loosing is job.  I did get pregnant last year but then miscarried at 3 months.  After that my husband said we were done, he didn't want to see me ever go through that again.  Well here we are 17 months after that miscarriage with a healthy baby on the way.  Luckily we just got our minivan in January!  I was 5 years younger than my older sister and 5 years older than my younger sister and it was lonely.  I never wanted that much of a gap between my children...well not this baby will be born around my oldest son's 7th birthday and my younger one will be 5 1/2 years older.  I guess it just is what it is, I feel blessed to even have this new baby coming so I am not going to think too much about the spacing.

We are going to share the news with them in 3 weeks just to make really sure we are a little further past the risk period.  They will be so excited and this time they will be old enough to understand what having a baby means...last time it was more like having twins vs. a big brother.

    Welcome!!!  :)

  • Hi there!  I'll be 38 next week and am 17 weeks pregnant with my 3rd as well - although my first two kids are 16 and 14.  I do think I'm crazy to be doing this all over again... but I was told it'd be next to impossible for me to get pregnant again (that's why they call it practicing medicine).

I'm due on my husband's 40th birthday, and he also is worried about having another child "at our age".  I keep reminding him I'm the one doing all the work so far!

I have a 6 yr old stepdaughter (my husband and I were just married 3/30/12), and we just told her about the baby last week. Like you, we wanted to be sure we were past the 1st trimester.

I'm just happy to know I'm not the only one - and I'm sure all of you on this thread can relate to my growing resentment of hearing "advanced maternal age"
