I'm due with my first in 6 weeks and really committed to delivering med-free. To help me get through when the pain is killer and I'm considering meds, I'm putting together a list of brief motivational quotes to read to keep me focused. I don't want long poems or religious quotes....just brief one-liners that I can repeat to myself.
Any suggestions? Here is what I have so far....
-
Millions of women have done this before!! I can do it too!!
-
This is healthy, normal pain?..not bad pain!!
-
Keep breathing and moving!!
-
My baby will crawl and root better after birth without meds!
-
Labor is a normal, natural process ? not a medical procedure!
-
I am strong and I can do this!
-
Don?t focus on the pain between contractions; just breath and relax and enjoy the endorphins!
-
Soon our baby will be in our arms! Just a little bit longer!!
-
Each contraction and minute that goes by means I am that much closer to meeting our baby!!

Re: Motivational Quotes/Thoughts To Read During Labor
I did the same sort of thing to have with my! I did a google search and pintrest and a lot of the good sayings for working out worked really well!!! One that I really liked was:
Don't give up what you want now for what you want most!
Vice versa haha! Don't give up what you want MOST for what you want NOW
Sorry long day!
My favorite quote that got me through my labor and delivery was;
Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.
This one would be for your birth partner, but if you start to say, "I can't do this!" He/she can say, "But you are doing it" or "But you have been doing it"
Just one suggestion and this might be the Hypnobirthing mama in me, but you might want to change the word 'pain' to something else. That word evokes such a strong reaction.
Maybe something like:
What my body is doing is healthy and normal...this too will pass.
I don't know if that falls into your definition of positive/motivational, though.
Movies have always been a great escape for me so your post made me think of movie quotes that kind of send me off on a tangent.
Remember, you can't fight the contraction, so just go with it. Good luck!!
This is the best mantra for labor ever. EVER.
And this. The more you relax, the easier it is to get through. I didn't have any set mantras, but I did spend a lot of time focusing on my cervix opening up whenever I had a contraction. I also ended up just doing really long low moans (like yoga vocalizations) to get through the super-serious ones, and really long, slow breathing.
Good luck! You'll do great.

"Out baby, out baby"
And I agree with having your partner say "you're doing it" whenever you say "I can't do this". I must have said "I can't do this" 100 times when I was in labor, and my MW and DH kept telling me how amazing I was doing and that I WAS doing it. In the moment it frustrated me, but looking back it was actually quite helpful.
I'm not sure the best phrasing for this, but something that helps me is to remember that my body knows what it's doing, I just have to stay out of the way.
Best of luck!!!
"Just a few more seconds."
Because every time it really sucked, it was just a few more seconds until the contraction was over. As long as I could get through a few more seconds, I was okay.

I think I had my eyes squeezed shut and my hands clasped together for 95% of my labor. For me, it was best to think one word on repeat, "open," to myself.
I literally said "relax" in my head over and over and over until each contraction was done. My hubs was saying it in my ear as well.
Then I also kept thinking "I can do anything for one minute" and then by the time a minute was up, the contraction was almost gone.
I read about so many horrible side effects of the possible medications (epidural - spinal headache for 2 weeks was the main one that got me, plus I am allergic to most major pain meds - I break out into hives/feel like my skin is crawling), so I kept thinking "do I want to deal with labor for around 24 hours, or do I want to deal with side effects along with it and possibly up to 2 weeks? I'll take the one day of not comfortable!"
13 hours of labor and it was done, and as soon as little man popped out, all the pain/discomfort was ancient history!
