I love scary stories! Ok this is one my mom told me. A little backstory, she grew up in Colorado on a small farm. Their closest neighbor lived about a mile away.
So my mom was about 14 years old. She is one of 14 kids! All but one of her siblings was out for the night. They all went to the drive-in. Her older sister was at home but was taking a bath. Her mom was working nights as at a laundromat. So she was reading and heard a scratching noise. She tried to convince herself it was just her mind playing tricks. Then she heard it again. It sounded like it was coming from the living room. So she walked in the room slowly. The sound stopped. Then she heard it in the bedroom again. It sounded like nails on a chalkboard this time. So she went in the bedroom and the sound stopped. A few minutes passed then she heard it in the kitchen. When she went in the kitchen she looked towards the window and saw a chicken claw scratching at the glass! She freaked out of course. Started screaming for her sister to come.
Her older sister runs out of the bathroom in her robe. But by the time she got there the claw was gone. My mom was hysterical so she pleaded with her sister to go look outside by the window. Her sister forces my mom to go with her.
So there they are outside in the pitch blackness with nothing but a small porch light. They walk around to the window and what do they find?!? Two of their older brothers hiding with a severed chicken claw!!! The brothers busted up laughing and took off running. LOL!

When i was three, my parents took me camping in Northern Maine at a lake. According to them, all the other people at the camp ground walked around slack jawed and just stared at you if you greeted them.
So we went swimming at the lake, and the beach was pretty much empty until a dozen other campers descended upon it, all at once. Half of them just walked right into the water and then stood there, staring out over the lake. Then they turned around and walked back in from the water. A bit strange.
That night, we were sleeping in a tent. In the middle of the night, we were woken up by two people walking around our tent, and trying to see in the window flaps. My dad started yelling at them and went out after them with a hatchet and they ran away, but we left the next day.

Ok, so I've wanted to go camping as a family in the spring and summer but you've totally just turned me off of that.

I've been to campgrounds all over the Eastern US and this is the only story I have like this.

I don't have a creepy story, but I'll tell a haunted house story. I HATE haunted houses, I hate people trying to scare me. In HS, I went with my b/f to an amusement park who does Halloween. We went in a haunted house and one of the guys kept trailing me, very close, about 6 inches (they can't touch you in PA). My b/f told him to knock it off, but he wasn't exactly intimidating, to say the least. I turned around and said "Listen a**hole, I know you can't touch me, but I can absolutely kick you in the balls if you don't back off". I never saw him after that lol. My b/f was cracking up, because it's not something I would normally say.

When I was 17 I went with a small caravan of friends to a place here called "Hell Town." It allegedly is haunted and just a little neighborhood with cult type people living there.
There were stories that went along with things there. Like Cry Baby Bridge, Suicide Cliff, and haunted train tracks.
It was freaky to drive through, go look over the cliff, and walk around. When we were leaving a deer ran out in front of us and almost made me pee my pants.

When I was in about 8th grade my sister's boyfriend was staying at our house. He was home alone sitting in the living room when he saw me walk through the back of the living room(it's a huge room kind of divided into two sections with furniture). He said hello but I didn't answer him.
About half an hour later I came home. I'd been spending the night at a friends house and hadn't been home all day.
I grew up in a big old victorian style house, it can be pretty creepy.

When I was 4 or 5 I had a dream (at least I am pretty sure it was a dream anyway) where I woke up and looked at my bedroom door (it was closed) and there was a glowing skeleton dancing on it. I looked away and looked back and it was still there. I looked away again and looked it back and it fell apart and to the ground and vanished.

This has happened to H and I in our house many many times. I think they're just residual energy but it is creepy.
Yes shelley, you know I was just waiting for you to join this post.
I have some more supernatural type ones too, but none are really fabulous stories. Just collections of strange things.

When I was 7 we moved into a house. I believe the house was built around 1850. I remember laying in bed and I could see 2 Civil War era men walking up the stairs the same time every night. Then one night they just stopped.
About a year or 2 ago my niece told my mom and my sister that she saw an old man (late 50s/early 60s - she said he looked like my dad's age) and a young boy on the 3rd floor. It really spooked her. My sister mentioned that my niece was on the 3rd floor and saw... I cut her off and said an older man in ratty clothes and a young boy probably 6 or 8 years old whose clothes were also old and torn. They don't do anything they just show up for a minute then vanish. My sister was amazed because I described them the same as my niece. I said they don't do anything and they seem to be residual but show up in different places at different times but always on the 3rd floor or the stairs to the 3rd floor. No one else has ever seen them besides me and my niece.

How crazy that this has happened multiple times to both of you. I would pee my pants. Do you live close to limestone (I think that's the right thing) or water or something that's supposed to retain energy?

On Monday night (yes, this week), after DH got home from work, I finished feeding DD and took her in her room to play before bed. I left the back door open to let some fresh air in since it was so warm out. DH was in the bathroom. When he came out of the bathroom, he yelled from the kitchen to ask if I had left the door open, and then asked if anyone had come over while he was in the bathroom. Thinking he was crazy, I told him that no one had. Then DH made me come out and look in the driveway.
We have a pile of brush and wood at the back of our driveway, right outside the back door, that we just haven't gotten around to cleaning up sine DH and his cousin took down a big tree limb a few weeks ago. Sticking up out of the brush pile was a creepy halloween decoration skull with flashing eyes. DH was so freaked out, he went through the whole house to make sure no one was inside hiding, and then went all around the outside of the house with a flashlight. We still have NO IDEA where it came from. We've asked all of our friends that we ever imagined would do something like that, but everyone looks at us like we're crazy. Obviously someone put it there, but it's killing me to know who did it!

Probably some teenagers stole it from someone's yard and stuck it on your pile.
When I was in 8 th grade, my brother (18 months younger) was dog sitting for our neighbors. They had really big dogs and a creepy cat. My parents were in the car in the driveway, and we were in a hurry, I think on the way to church, so I was going to help.
We walked in and the dogs were barking and clawing at the gate and there was a light shinning out of the back room towards the hallway. You could tell stuff was misplaced, kind of ransacked. We flipped the switch to the light and a creepy voice said, "please leave... please leave."
We freaked and screamed and ran outside. So my dad went in to investigate. Apparently the dogs had knocked an endtable over and the lamp was on its side and the answering machine had been knocked over and stuck on "please leave....a message."
Here's another. My grandparents moved into my great grandparents house after they died. There is a huge picture of my g.grandfather on the wall, that has been there forever.
My uncle's wife is from Peru, and didn't speak english very well when she moved here. They were visiting, and in broken english she kept asking who the other man was, that was there. Everyone thought she just wasnt saying something right. They got out an electronic translator and it read, "Who is the man that noone is talking to?" Ahh creepy. Then she saw the picture and said, "there he is again- who is he?" This was like 10 years after he died, so his ghost is still living in the house!
