Last year I posted about the fact that I have thyroid nodules that have to be monitored. My OB just happened to find them, I had no idea they were even there! I have them biopsied several times though the last time came back somewhat inconclusive on one. My endo was kind NBD about it and I wasn't comfortable with that so went to another endo. She took measurements via ultrasound and found they were stable so said to follow up in 6 months. Well, that was today, and I expected everything was okay, but the one that was inconclusive has now grown again. It's within allowable parameters for a year but it's only been 6 months. So I had it biopsied today again for a special genetic testing. If that is inconclusive then a regular biopsy will be reviewed. If that is inconclusive them most likely they'll take half of my thyroid out. If it is cancerous then the whole thyroid comes out and I'll be on hormone replacement and have to do a radiation pill. I've researched enough in the past to know I can't been around C during that time. :-(
So, I'm really praying that the genetic testing comes back benign. If you prayer, I'd be grateful for your prayers as my biopsy is sent off. I'll get the results in a week.
Re: Ugh, prayers please if you can
My BFF was diagnosed with thyroid cancer 3 years ago. She had a very hard time and multiple surgeries along with the radiation pill. Her case was exceptionally bad though, and she's been cancer free for 2 years now.
I'll keep you in my thoughts. FX it comes back neg for you.

Thanks, and I'm really glad to hear your BFF is cancer-free. My endo was very optimistic so hoping everything is just fine.
BFP #2 5/27/12. EDD 2/1/13. m/c and D&C 6/21/12.
Lots of T&P for you! I hope everything is fine, but keep us updated!
My mom, cousin and aunt all had their thyroids removed (my moms wasn't cancerous, so she didn't have the radiation, but she had other problems with it). I feel like no one in NJ has their thyroid anymore. So scary
But the good news is that they are all on synthroid and all doing fine! T+P coming your way!
I'm so sorry you're going through this stress. I worried a lot about DHs exposure to DD (or vice versa) during his cancer treatment so I sort of know what you're feeling.
Hopefully if they do have to remove it you won't need the radiation and, really, they can do wonders with the synthetic thyroid meds. My mom's whole side of the family is hypothyroid and takes meds for it and they've all been happy with the results.
Good luck.
PS- if heaven forbid it did end up being cancerous feel free to PM me. I know our experience was different because it was DH, not me, and he had surgery and chemo, not radiation, but I might be of help with some of it anyway.
Thank you all. I'm a little freaked out, especially imaging the worst of course. :-(
I'll be sure to update when I find out more next week. IncogNeato, thank you so much. When I heard about the radiation pill today, I thought of your family and realized how you must feel. I'm so sorry and hope your DH is doing well.
oh no, I am so sorry! T&Ps to you!
both my sisters have half their thyroid removed & I've been keeping my fx that I don't develop issues, too, since it runs in the family.
TP headed your way.
My MIL had thyroid cancer and had her thyroid removed over 25yrs ago. She takes a bunch of meds now but she is perfectly healthy otherwise.
Just wanted to add that I hope your results are negative, can't believe I forgot to say that originally.
Hang in there, hon. The waiting for results of testing is truly the worst part. The weeks that we waited on his second pathology screening were awful but once we actually had the info and could DO something, it was a lot easier to deal with.
If it's at all encouraging, DH is doing really great. His chemo was short but intense so it was a few rough weeks but he's already done. His hair is buzzed short but he looks cute like that and he's quickly getting back into his old activities. We'll have lots of follow up appointments of course but we expect a smooth road from here on out. (Of course his eye doctor noted a "freckle" on his eye today that will need to be watched *sigh* but as far as we know, he is healthy right now and will remain so!)
I'm so happy to hear he is doing well and you guys are moving on. Here's to hoping the freckle is just that.
