April 2012 Moms

First birthdays parties, what are your ideas?

This is so early but I'm sure some of you have already been thinking about what kind of party you will have, theme, food, all of that. Share your ideas, I would love to hear what you are doing!

I am a pink lover so DD is going to have a "Pink Party" I have the decorations figured out, tons of pink balloons and streamers. But I have no idea what to do for the food. I am inviting about 25 people so I want to do something inexpensive. Any suggestions?

  • For my first DD we did a funky monkey party. I think for DD#2 we may do bumble bee, but I'm not sure yet. I'll wait until after Christmas to start really looking around.

  • I've been thinking about it way too much! I have my sister's baby shower to plan by January, and my mind is too wrapped up in planning a Minnie Mouse birthday party for A!

  • I'm thinking of hungry hungry caterpillar or a rainbow color theme.
We don't have many people to invite so I don't plan on doing a whole lot.

  • I'm doing April Showers Bring May Flowers because DD was born in April and her name is May.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one excited about this!

I love to have parties and am planning a huge party for his 1st birthday. I haven't thought of a theme yet but for now maybe dinosaurs. (He roars/growls like a dinosaur and it's hilarious) He is being a dinosaur for halloweeen though so not sure

  • I am pumped about his first birthday! I think we are going to do either a Disney theme or Thomas the Tank Engine. Not sure yet!

  • We probably won't have a party, but I may copy a FB friend of mine and do family photos.  Since we live in the DC area and the cherry blossoms bloom in April, I think we'll probably do something with cherry blossoms as a theme.  For a cake and the photo shoot.

  • I will most likely do butterflies and flowers, purple as the color. I am still thinking of where to have it and what size party to have.

  • We did a baby Minnie Mouse theme for DD1. I'm thinking DD2's party will be the "Look Whoo's Turning 1" owl theme.
  • I am wanting to do polka dots and pinwheels. I have a pintrest board started already. https://blog.hwtm.com/2012/10/polka-dot-pinwheel-first-birthday-party/

  • We probably won't have a party we have no family here and very few friends. We will just do something as a family. Maybe my mum's group will have a joint party cause we are all born around the same time. If I was doing one it would be a monkey theme I think.

  • probably we won't do a party. I'm not very good at planning stuff like that and I don't see the point in 1st birthday party since she won't know what's going on anyway. It would just be a big expense. Maybe we'll have a party when she's 2.

Or maybe I'll change my mind when April rolls around... we shall see...

  • I'm also in the "no big party" club. My SIL has parties for her kids and invites all of the cousins, aunts and uncles, even though we don't get invited to all of her cousins' birthday parties. I feel like it's just a desparate plea for presents (from her, I'm not juding those of you having a party). My side of the family only celebrates with their immediate family as well.

So we'll invite my brother, his wife and kids, my sister, my SIL and her husband and kids, then both sets of grandparents. That's all we need. I don't think there will be a "theme," since it only ends up costing more money. We'll have food and a cake, and a good time will be had! We might do something special for my brother though, if he can make it (he lives 4 hours away). He and Micah share the same birthday.

  • We probably won't do a huge party, but we will have family and a few friends over to celebrate.  If we do a theme, it will probably be something related to Disney since DH and I are Disney freaks.

  • Since DD's nickname is "Katy-Bug" I'll do a ladybug theme.  Although I don't go too crazy since it won't be a big blow-out party---just family.

ETA:  I will say that if it wasn't for the bump and pinterest, it never would have occurred to me to have a theme for a kid's birthday party other than "Birthday."  That's the self-imposed pressure of social media for ya! ;)

  • Maybe "Hungry Caterpillar" bday theme. Seems easy: the food from the book - apples, pears, strawberries, watermelon, ice cream (you can do cupcakes in the cones), butterfly crackers. A large caterpillar, and in each circle can be her monthly pics from birth - one year. Thank you notes can be her hand-prints into a butterfly.
