Baby Eczema

My LO has developed a small red, dry area on his eyebrow and has some 'dry' patches of skin on his back- its very mild though. I freaked out at first and thought the eyebrow one was a ringworm, but it hasn't gotten worse since I first noticed it. Plus, I took a picture of it and emailed to his pedi and although she can't say for sure from the photo, she says it looks like eczema. 

Is this common in babies and does it resolve itself as he gets older? Or is this a lifelong thing? Anyone have experience with this?

    DD has baby eczema on her elbow (I also was convinced it was ringworm). Anyways, our ped said that the majority of time it will clear up as they get older and won't be a life long problem. In the mean time, we just use Aveeno Baby Eczema lotion, and it works wonders.

    My LO developed eczema at about two months. We use Vanicream Lite lotion all over twice a day. Also if there are flare ups we put a little hydrocortisone then lotion on top of it pediatrician's instructions. Our pediatrician said that it would typically clear up during childhood.

    Very common. My LO has dry patches on both arms, his belly and back. 

    I give him short baths and use cetifil for a body wash. Pedi also recommended a dove soap bar. Everything I use on his skin is unscented. 

    I bought a tub of petroleum jelly and rub it on the dry areas after his bath every night.

    It could be diet related (dairy,gluten, egg) are common triggers.

    I have 2 eczema kiddos and they do tend to outgrow it.  DD still has it but has outgrown most of it.  It tends to flare up on the backs of her knees and inside her elbows during allergy season.  DS has it all over his tummy and a couple spots on his cheeks along with the elbows and knees.  My favorite product for clearing it up so far is the Aveeno Eczema therapy lotion.  And I like this even more than any of the prescriptions the dermatologist gave DD.  Good luck.

    Dry skin is not normal, though if it doesn't lead to generalized itchy rashes (eczema) then it can be managed with moisturizing. If your child already has dry skin, it's part of the skin makeup though certain foods do help skin growth (like omega3). My girl has eczema from 2 weeks old, her skin is dry and very itchy, we are managing well now with moisturizing.
