Do you go outside with your LO's to play everyday

I try to get outside every day to play with my LO but some days she doesn't want to go outside...she just wants to play inside with her toys.  Do you try to go outside to play everyday?

  • I try to but it is difficult in our new environment.  My kids are used to FL weather and this NE weather is going to take some getting used to, especially all this rain.

  • I try to. It is good for both of us to get some vitamin D and fresh air.
  • Yes, we try to go outside every single day, even if it's just a quick five minute walk up and down the sidewalk. I'm already missing taking our evening walk after dinner since it is getting dark earlier.  And I am really dreading the winter weather because she loves playing outside so much.

  • We used to.  Our schedule has been much busier lately and we don't always have the time.  Both kids play outside while at school, so it makes me feel a little better when we don't make it out.

  • Yes but also live on a farm. Outside is just part of the ritual.

I kind of have the opposite problem lately. It's a bit too chilly here somedays for Toddler to be outside and she gets mad being trapped in the house. The kid is OBSESSED with outside. OBSESSED. Which was fabulous all spring/summer but not so much now. I actually just had to revamp all my inside stuff/buy/make some new stuff for Toddler.

H and I are both outdoor lovers though so getting outside isn't a problem. I still bundle up LO for a 1/2 hour at least and plan too unless it's absolutely frigid.

  • Sadly no.  I want to but it never seems to happen.  It sounds silly.  At this point I blame pregnancy.

  • No.  I would love to, but we live in the Pacific Northwest (aka it rains 8 months of the year), so it is just not always feasible.  Even with raincoats and boots, it sucks quite frankly.  And even though she was born here, DD hates getting wet in the rain.  Sigh.

  • We don't go outside to play everyday. We live in a city.. a smaller one but still a city, so we don't have a yard. Its not the "safest" of places to live so we don't go walking around here to far away. We go to the park, my parents, and my Bil'sa lot so we play outside when we are there. So probably like 4 times a week? We do go outside everyday to get places. I don't think there's been a day all of his life we were completely indoors.
Needless to say I want to move. We are hoping to find a condo with a small yard soon.
  • During the summer when I was super pregnant, no, we didn't go out if it was super hot!  Now that it's cooler we go out daily for a walk around the neighborhood then we play in the backyard.

  • Yes!! Even if its raining i take boys out under cover porch, which is tiny but enough space for all 4 of us to stand and blow bubbles or use sidewalk chalk. I think a daily dose of fresh air is a must!
  • Yes, every single day. DS absolutely goes nuts if we stay inside all day.
  • We try to for at least a little while most days. Today we had lunch outside and DD played with some cars on the walkway for a bit after. Yesterday we went for a long walk so DD was in her stroller, but got some fresh air. It was rainy the 3 days before.

I think if our yard was fully fenced and/or we didn't live on a fairly high traffic street (we live across from a high school) it would be a lot easier to just let her roam outside. At this point, I have to stay close and even take her inside when I go for a quick trip to the bathroom, etc. We are renting and hoping to be out of here by next year so fencing the house or begging the landlords to isn't worth it.

  • It gets harder now that the rain is back and will be around for the next 8 months. Our days definitely go a lot smoother when DS gets some fresh air. DS loves sports.. so any dry day or even just a little misty we go outside to play. I don't think it ever really gets too cold to go out here.. maybe down to 30 in the winter. Just wet a lot.

Also.. do you take any of her inside toys outside to play with? Or have anything similar that she likes outside?

We put DS's train table outside during the summer for him. We also would do our coloring/painting/etc outside when possible.

  • We try. Some days it's just out on our front porch or the front yard, other days it's time at the park. I'd say probably 75% of the fair weather days were outside.

  • Yes.  Unless it is pouring rain outside we go outside every day at least once.  Even in the middle of winter when it is -20 out; you get in your gear and go outside.

I hate inside days.  My boys drive me crazy if we are stuck inside for too long.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • No we don't go outside everyday. Luckily we live where the weather is good, and we do have a little yard area. So when we want to go out it's easy.

But we don't get out there every single day. I try to go with the flow and not force the issue. Sometimes DD can't wait to get outside and other times she's not so into it.

  • We go outside every day.  Even if it is raining, we have a large covered front porch and we will go out there and play with cars or play doh or something.  It just seems to put everyone in a better mood

  • i try to go for a walk once per day, but sometimes the day gets away from me and we skip it. we used to go first thing in the morning but now it's too cold. :( he's very close to walking and i think it will be easier to play more outside once that happens.

  • Every single day, unless it is pouring/thundering (even then, we sit under our small covered porch for a bit). We have a large, fenced in backyard and he loves to roam it, looking at bugs, picking up sticks, etc. I believe that fresh air makes all of us healthier and I know it wears DS out. I would be very very sad without a yard. Now that the weather is so nice, some days we spend 2-4 hours outside.

  • We definitely don't go out every day.  I try to get them out as much as possible during the nice weather, though.  Some days we are outside more than inside, but weather around here can be harsh and unpredictable.  I don't take them out if the wind is blowing too hard (we live on a farm, so there is little wind protection, and this has been a drought year, so there is a LOT of dust - not good for the kids' allergies), below zero, raining, or too hot.  Unfortunately where we live, there is a good chance it will be one or more of those at least once a week.  We make it work.  Some days we just go to WalMart to walk around and get out of the house for awhile.

I've never had problems getting my kids outside to play, but could you bring outside some of her indoor toys?  Maybe that would entice her?  Like a tea set, or dolls.

  • Ditto the PP- yes, we go outside everyday regardless of the weather. If it's horrible weather, we'll go to the covered deck and she'll play with her outdoor toys there.
