Baby Names

Boy and Girl, Opinions Welcome!

First: All opinions welcome, especially negative ones. I really want to vet these for bad reactions. Our last name sounds like Hasselhoff.

The girl name is pretty standard: Elisabeth Llewellyn Marie "Hasselhoff"

Elisabeth for MIL who passed away 9 years ago, Llewellyn because DH is obsessed with it (a compromise), and Marie for my mom's middle name. It's a mouthful but double middles for girls are tradition in DH's family.

The boy's name is a little more out there: Solomon Archimedes "Hasselhoff"

No family meaning in either name. DH adores Archimedes and I can't think of a nickname I like- so it'll go in the middle slot. Solomon rolls off the tongue with Archimedes and with our last name and has great nickname options and we love the meaning and history. Together they're awesome for yelling across the house but Solomon is traditional enough to go on a resume without sounding ridiculous.

Thoughts?

  • Agreed with PP the MN are common enough to get a little creative with the MN's Love Elisabeth with the "s"

  • I read quickly, when I got to the "Hasselhoff" I though it was an intended nickname.  I CLEARLY need another cup of coffee.

Big thumbs up on the girl's name, beautiful tribute to MIL and your mom and you get brownie points on the compromise with Llewellyn.

I don't love your boy's name but maybe because it doesn't have as much family significance as your girl's name does.

  • I love them!  I think both names are great, and I think the big fantastic middle names are really fun.

    I love Elisabeth and Solomon/Sol.

I think the middle names are big, but awesome. Middle names are the place to have more fun, have something more unique (but not youneek), while still allowing the kid to have a normal first name. I think Lllewellyn/Llewelyn and Archimedes (Archie is awesome, love it. But agree this is better suited as a middle name).

    Yes

This, I think you are good to go with these, the first names are common enough without being trendy sounding, and the middle names, while a mouthful are middle names that won't get mentioned all that often and are not terrible in the middle name spot.

Double This :) They are great names, especially since the first ones are traditional. Great job!

  • I like the first names, and agree with others that the middle names are kind of big, but I think it's totally worth it to be able to have your husband say he chose those and stick with a family tradition of 2 middle names for girls.

  • I don't really care for Solomon, but it's not bad. Archimedes is definitely a little out there but I like it and I think you can have some fun with MNs. The girl name is good.
