NBR: Thanksgiving recipes

Please share with me some of your favorite Thanksgiving recipes.  This is the first year I will be hosting Thanksgiving and I'd like some help/ideas on things to prepare. TIA

Re: NBR: Thanksgiving recipes

  • This turkey is the absolute best turkey I have ever had.  It is also the easiest turkey to make because you don't have to baste it at all.  So here is the link for it...

I also make garlic mashed potatoes, sausage stuffing, a chocolate meringue pie, and pumpkin pie of course!  We usually also just have a green salad and canned cranberry sauce.  I usually do a few snack foods early in the afternoon and have dinner around 6pm.  We have to do everything gluten free (and possibly dairy and soy-free this year if LO isn't over his allergies yet) so I have special recipes and ways to accomplish that if you need that help at all.  :-)

Have fun with hosting your first Thanksgiving!

  • I always make Green Bean Casserole. The recipe from the French's Fried Onion container. Our family loves it.

One year, I hated the idea of roasting a turkey so I made homemade bread and bought sliced turkey breast. I cooked up some gravy and we made Open Face Turkey sandwiches. My family still raves about those.

  • Last year i hosted my first thanksgiving. we had:

    Turkey (duh!)
    Homemade mashed poatatoes and gravy
    Homemade Stuffing
    Green bean casserole
    Homemade rolls
    Corn
Wet lettuce salad (not sure why we call it that, it is just lettuce with a homemade dressing of mayo, mustard and a little sugar and my mom used to put diced onions in it but i hate onions so no onions here)
And we had apple and pumpkin pies and chocolate chip pumpkin bread

I also had veggies and dip and cheese and crackers for people to munch while i was still cooking

  • Sweet potatoes are my favorite! Boil to cook them. Cut them in half and lay in a baking pan. Drizzle maple syrup and brown sugar. Bake for 30 minutes or so. S yummy!

  • If you're making dessert too, this cake is awesome.  I've made it a few times and it always gets amazing reviews.  Since it's made from cake mix it's also pretty easy.
