Bathtub

When is it ok to just put baby in the regular bathtub?  We still have her in the smaller tub in the large tub, but the baby tub is getting to scuzzy on the underside, and it is impossible to clean well.  I was wondering if there are any developmental milestones that make it apporpriate to just use the regular tub.  TIA.

Re: Bathtub

  • When he wouldn't stop trying to climb out I moved him to the big tub.

  • We just made the move about a month ago. She kept (and continues) trying to stand up, so I felt better just using the regular tub.

  • Just like Sweetpea and AP, I moved Maddie is when she could sit up well, and also when she wouldn't stop trying to get out of her baby tub. I'm thinking it was 6 or 7 months, because its been a while. She does very well.

This. He's been in the big tub for months now. It's a lot easier and he loves splashing around.

  • We moved B to her regular bathtub as soon as she learned to pull her self to standing. She was using her baby tub as leverage to pull herself up and it was a constant fight. Just make sure you have something non-slip at the bottom of the tub.

  • I guess this isn't the norm, but I've been doing baths in the regular tub since two weeks, and I'm wondering why in the world nobody else does it. I thought it was much easier than anything else.

  • We put him in the big tub around 8-9 months.  Sometimes with me or DH in there to play.  And sometimes I just bring him in the shower stall with me when I do my shower.

I am someone in the world that has ALWAYS bathed Bo in the big tub! When he was an itsy bitsy baby I sat in there with him am laid him on my legs! I stopped getting in with him when he could sit well alone!
Good luck tori!! A will love all of the room! Watch out though! Bo is notorious for standing up in the tub! Then I have to say "sit on your bottom" ! He now knows the direction, and I am blown away with the "classroom" capacities bath time holds in our house! I realize you can have these same experiences in a baby tub! I just think the "sit" is delivered in a more urgent fashion in the big tub, therefore he picked up on that quickly!
Bo knows basket, wipe your eyes, sit on your bottom, head back close your eyes, and duck: he cannot say duck like mr. Jack, but he can find his ducky! Oh and after the water goes down the special tunnel he lays on his tummy and tries to slurp the existing water drops! So cute!
Let us know how the transition goes!

ohhh yesss, this is a must!

And we have been in the big tub for a couple months now. It's a lot easier for me. Plus, its more room so T has a blast,

Us too. When she was tiny we had a foam mat thing that she laid on; once she could sit well, we got a non slip mat.

  • We started DS in the regular bathtub around 8 or 9 months (something like that).

  • We moved to the big tub I think when he was 7 months.  He was sitting on his own and would try to stand in his baby bathtub.
