UTI and Antibiotics

Hey all!  After a few days of suffering, I finally went to the dr. Turns out I have a UTI.  Anyone have experience with taking Macrobid for a UTI?  Does it cause any horrible side effects?

 In July, I was prescribed an AWFUL antibiotic for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and it was the worst two weeks of my life. The medicine made me feel horrible.

 I'm hoping this antibiotic (Macrobid) is much milder.

    May turn your urine brown, but it's normal.  If it upsets your stomach, you can always eat something with it, but it shouldn't. :)

     ETA:  Just out of general pharmacist curiosity, what was the antibiotic they gave you before and what side effects did you have?

    I can deal with brown urine ha ha.

     

    For the RMSF, they prescribed me 2 weeks of Doxycycline.  The rules of when to take it were awful.  Taking it on an empty stomach cause turmoil in my stomach.  Put me in a fog and made me dizzy even when sitting still.  Made my arms and legs tingle for days.  And after being in the shade for 2 hours (not even in the sun), my body felt like it had IcyHot all over it.  Took about 2 weeks after finishing the medicine to feel back to normal!

    Grab a probiotic if you're worried about your stomach. My OB said any of them are good to take, but check with your doc if you're concerned. It'll help keep all the good bacteria around while you're knocking out the bad.

    I also have a UTI and am taking macrobid. My pharmacist told me she took it while pregnant with no problem.

    For the last several years, I've been prescribed to take one macrobid after sex to prevent UTI's (I have a long history of them).  They told me to continue during preg, and I've had no issues.  Like any antibiotic, they can lead to yeast infections, so I'd eat some yogurt while you're taking it.
