Question for those that don't swaddle

LO is starting to move all over the place at night. He's still in a PNP in our room, and I usually lay him in it long ways, and by the morning he's completely sideways or totally turned around. We swaddle him in a woombie, but he usually snuggles up and ends up sleeping on his side. 

I'm worried that now that he's moving so much he could start turning over in his sleep and it might be time to ditch the swaddle.. (which breaks my heart because he loves his woombie so much).

My question is- how do you keep LO warm? We keep our house at 71 degrees. Elliot always sleeps in a sleeper and the woombie, but I'm worried that he won't be warm enough once we take away the woombie. Its not safe to give him a blanket I'm sure..but I'm not sure if trying a sleep sack would work because he'll get so tangled when he moves around. WWYD?

    I put DD2 in a heavier cotton onsie currently. When it gets really cold out this winter I have some of those fleece onsies. I might get flamed for this, but I do put one of her A&A blankets over her currently. Hasn't been an issue for us.

    FWIW we keep it at 72 in our house right now. I believe my DH sets it at 68 during the winter.

    Oh! I have a few fleece onesies, but I think they're all still too big. I should check that out today and see..if anything I could put him in a basic short sleeved onesie and put the fleece over him maybe? He's really cold by nature and its pretty much always bundled, which is why I've been so worried.

    and FWIW- if I had blankets as light as the A&A blankets, I'd use one. All our blankets are thick.

We have a light fleece one for cool weather, and a 2.5 tog one for cold weather. We will layer sleepers under them, cotton or fleece depending on temperature. 

    My kid thrashes around in his sleep a lot too, and they don't get twisted.

    DS used to wiggle all over the place when he was swaddled. He'd be in the corner of his crib in the morning. We weaned from a swaddle starting at 3 months (1 week 1 arm out alternating, 1 week both arms out swaddled at the chest) and moved to a sleep sack. DS doesn't move around his crib at all now. I wonder now if he was just moving around trying to get out of the swaddle. My intention was to go just to a sleeper, but since he wasn't moving around in the sleep sack we just stuck with it. If he starts moving again I think we'll do a fleece sleeper or a short sleeve onesie under a regular cotton sleeper (this is what my winter baby friends did). I won't use a blanket because DS kicks his legs up and ends up with the blanket over his face.

    Oh yeah, we keep our house at 71, too. It's probably cooler than that upstairs, though. We turn on an oil heater with a fan behind it in the hallway on cold nights. 

    ETA: we use a cotton sleep sack, not a fleece one.

    My LO has hated being swaddled from day 1. We have her in her crib on a foam wedge with sides that way she cant roll from side to side. We dress her in fleece footed jammies and have one of those "aden and anais" breathable blankets tucked in around the wedge (not her) and that way she can't untuck it. This will keep your LO warm and in one spot for the night :)

    My LO isn't swaddled anymore we stopped around 5-6 weeks. He hated it! To keep him warm since our rental house isn't well insulated, I usually put a lightweight cotton sleeper on him and put a cotton sleep sack over it. It's a sleeveless sleep sack so I feel like it keeps him warm enough without too much layering. I can't use a blanket because he is all over the place in his crib, sometimes he will be on his side or stomach even though we lay him down on his back. We have a mesh breathable crib bumper but that's it, nothing else.

    We put DS in a sleepsack usually and we sometimes use a blanket. A homemade one my mom made (it had holes in it and is lightweight) We did the same thing for DD and everything was fine.

    we've been putting baby girl to sleep in a long sleeved gown (the sleeves fold over like mittens to keep her fingers warm) and a sleeveless microfleece sleep sack.  we have a couple long sleeved fleece sleepsacks for when it gets colder.  we keep our house pretty cold, between 60-65.

    Grobag. Actually, we use the John Lewis (UK dept. store) own-brand version, but it's exactly the same. The tog (heaviness) you use varies depending on how hot/cold it is. You also get a little guide telling you what you should be dressing your LO in (onsie, long-sleeved onsie, sleepsuit, etc.) depending on the temp. in the room and the tog of bag you've got. Currently, we're dressing our LO in a long-sleeved sleepsuit and putting him in a 1.0 tog bag. Works a treat and no worries about kicking off the covers.

    Cotton footed PJs in the spring/summer. Now that it's getting cooler at night I do fleece footed PJs. I get their footed pjs from carters

    I still like the cotton knit SwaddleMe sacks, but I wrap the swaddle around his middle leaving his arms out. We also use sleep sacks, especially when it is chilly at night. Both have worked great for DS.

    We put DS in thick fleece footie pj's and he's fine.

    I put DS in a feety pj and if it's really cold I pair it up with a sleep sack.
