does it really work? that is the method i am wanting to use this time around as I really really do not want an epidural. I was completely against it last time too, but my back labor was so intense, i caved.
Last night, I ate some yogurt and fruit at work, and about 20 minutes later, i started cramping really bad, so i went to the bathroom. omg, it hurt so bad and felt sooo similar to labor. cramping, hot flash, sweating, it really gave me a little reminder of what labor feels like. I think i had food poisoning or something...i ended up going to the bathroom twice and then i felt better afterwards.
I haven't finished reading the hypnobirthing book yet, I better get on that, i only have about 14-16 weeks left. What else do i need to do to be prepared for this? i think my book came with a CD, but i haven't listened to it yet..
Re: experienced hypnobirthing mamas...
Well, I am a Hypnobabies mama which is slightly different than other hypnobirthing because it teaches anesthesia techniques along with guided relaxation/imagery. I will say that I was pretty surprised how well it worked. I had two days of prodromal labor before my actual birthing time began and those contractions were pretty uncomfortable, which made me feel doubtful. But when active labor started and my pressure waves were more productive our hypno cues started working wonderfully.
My husband kept me calm and comfortable for pretty much the entire time except for pushing. He and I got a little excited about the pushing and sort of stopped practicing our cues and hypnosis techniques so I had a fairly intense pushing phase, but it only lasted 15 minutes and felt more like 5 minutes to me. The 6 1/2 hours of pressure waves up until that point though were entirely manageable.
I felt a lot of sensations, pressure, tightening etc. But pain was nearly non-existent until crowning. I would say the pressure at crowning was more intense than actual pain too.
Keep practicing and mastering your techniques. I practiced hypno-anesthesia and listened to positive affirmations and hypno tracks every day. It was a big commitment, but it also helped me get good rest during my 3rd tri and during those 2 days of contractions I was able to sleep at night thanks to my hypnosis tracks so I wasn't exhausted for actual birthing. It was well worth the time investment. I'm very pleased with how my hypnobirth turned out.
