BOO!!! Was it a large amount? Something that could potentially change during the time it would take you to get ready? Is fundraising an option?
Hopefully you find something that will work out for you!

8/17/2012 started pursuing domestic infant adoption!
11/26/2012 HOME STUDY APPROVED!!! When relaxing didn't work is my new blog!
I'm sorry, the adoption process can be filled with so many twists and turns. I read your blog and I really do relate to the frustration of thinking you have found the right path and then realizing it's not for you.
(( Hugs )) prayers for you and your DH as you work everything out, and even though it seems like God is silent (from your blog : ) I like a saying I read a while back, which is "if God leads you to it He will lead you through it". A lot of times I have to let go and not rely on my understanding of things but to be patient that things will happen, just not necessarily on my timetable/expectations. That happened for us as we slowly changed from domestic infant to foster adopt, and again when we disagreed on when to start the process.
Anyway I'm rambling, but I'm really sorry about the China program not working out.
I know this is TOTALLY left field, but I know there's a relatively new program with India that's fast-tracked for HIV+ orphans. Don't know if that would interest you, but that's what we would have done if we were close to being 30.
Application approved Dec '11 Mar '12: Homestudy interrupted by change in Uganda requirements - where do we go from here? After searching and searching, back with Uganda but with our homestudy agency's program. Homestudy complete July 19 USCIS I-600A submitted July 20. Biometrics appointments arrived Aug 17; fingerprinted Aug 21; 171H received Sept 25th. On the wait list Oct 1st: #18. By Jan 25th, we're #13! Come home, baby A!
I am sorry for this road block... Loved reading your post and I can relate to the frustration of not knowing "where your baby is"... it's tough. Hang in there and keep searching (and keep your faith!).
Best friends and sisters... 24 months and 16 months
I'm sorry you've hit another road block. And I'm sorry that in the midst of all of this is the added stress of not having a clear direction on how to proceed. I've had a lot of the same feelings lately. I'm not mad at God for the IF, but I'm starting get a little pissy that He's keeping so many secrets. I keep saying that I will jump through whatever flaming hoop He wants me to, but He needs to give me a hint on which one it is, because it seems like I'm jumping through every one but the right one at present!
I hope you feel a conviction soon, and I hope it turns into your happy ending. Many prayers to you!
You probably already considered this, but do your life insurance policies contribute to your net worth? Ours counted for our adoption court papers and make our net worth look a lot higher than it would have otherwise.

Thanks, everyone! I know I was a bit of a downer today... I am so glad that you guys are out there to listen and understand. My friends have no idea what this process is like!

Our agency doesn't do adoptions from India anymore, but I'll look into this. Thanks!

I wish. We have term life,
which has no face value and builds no cash value. And death benefits
don't count (as far as I know). But it is something I'll ask the rep
tomorrow.
I'm sorry that you got rejected, Ellekae. That is really sad. Have you considered Guatemala? There is not a long wait for boys and you only have to make 25000/year to qualify. There are always options! My DH and I are considering that if we decide not to foster to adopt from the states.
Just for the reference--Guatemala is closed to U.S. international adoptions and has been for quite a while (and most likely will be for quite a long time).
I'm not sure if you were looking into the traditional China program or special needs program...the special needs program *frequently* makes allowances for the financial side of things. I wish they would make the same allowances for age!
Edit to Add: I just looked at your blog and saw that you were open to the special needs program. You mentioned checking out China adoption blogs--maybe ask someone who has adopted a child from the SN program about the financial side of things? I know of a couple of people who have adopted children with SN from China and have not met the financial requirements, so I know it's possible. It might vary from agency to agency...
Thanks for your reply, SoSweet. We just spoke to our social worker this afternoon. She seems pretty confident that we can figure out a way to qualify. Otherwise, she recommended that we wait a year or two to save up and then adopt an older child.
I was just reading that sometimes waivers are granted in special needs situations, but that seems to usually been for specific waiting children. I am definitely going to ask though.
We are in the process of adopting from China. Our renters insurance policy covers a certain amount and we were able to include that amount in our worth. HTH
