I'm a FTM doing research on our stroller purchases and have myself all confused on a few things. We plan to get an infant carrier and snap-and-go for the beginning. But then, I'm uncertain what we should focus on for our next stroller. We live in an urban environment and have a mid-sized car. Do I need heavier duty wheels and/or a smaller frame for city streets? But how to do I get one tough enough for city streets but small enough (wheel base?) to fit in our car's trunk? And finally, do you wait to try them out with your actual kid? Or can you pick one out in advance?
Thanks in advance!
Re: stroller confusion - help please!
I have no advice, but wanted to say you're not alone. I spend hours each day looking at strollers.
I'm currently looking at a pricier umbrella stroller that can be used as a travel system with an infant carrier, but should be good in most situations, I hope. I worry about it handling terrain (I live in Canada and like the beach), but I figure I'll use a carrier when taking baby over terrain.
I look forward to seeing the advice you get too.
Good Luck!
I thought stroller shopping (and really almost all baby gear shopping) was completely overwhelming so I relied heavily on Baby Bargains recommendations. Here's what they recommend for urban environments:
Best multi-functional: UppababyVista, Baby Jogger City Select, Britax B-Ready
Best light weight: Baby Jogger City Mini (we got the City Mini GT and we love it - but we're in the suburbs), Maclaren Triump or Quest, and Joovey's Kooper
Obviously, you would still want to do your own research and look at different sources for recommendations, but Baby Bargains is a great book because it gives good descriptions of the gear and an analysis for why certain items are better than others.
On a general note - I think getting a Snap N Go to start with is a great move. We did not do that and we used the car seat attachment on on CM GT and it worked fine but in restrospect having a Snap N Go for those early months would probably have been much easier. And, I think it's not a bad idea to wait until after the baby is here and you've lived a little with him/her and know what your routines are before buying your regular stroller. It will probably be much more clear then on what you need and don't need.
GL!
Yeah, the snap-n-go decision is based on the advice of many friends with toddlers now who never thought it was the right way to go and regretted it. Glad to benefit from their (and your collective) wisdom!
The funny thing is that the Baby Bargains book is what has overwhelmed me...there are so many high rated ones depending on your needs/situation that it's paralyzing. I think what I really need to do is get offline and into a store so I can turn the theoretical into reality.
Yes, I'll give you that. Baby Bargains in and of itself can seem overwhelming! :-) Definitely check them out in person. I pretty much knew I wanted a Baby Jogger because of what I read about them and because of recommendations from family/friends, but "driving" it in person helped seal the deal for me. Have fun!
