Is my kid the only one with no teeth?

Just curious. Rocco has been "teething" according to everyone for approximately 8 months now (i.e. any time he is remotely cranky or put anything in his mouth = "he must be teething!"). While my boobs and I thank him for being so gracious as to not cut any teeth while I am still bf-ing him, I am beginning to wonder if it's possible that he actually does not have any teeth haha!

  • I have a friend with a 14 month old who just got her first tooth this week. It's normal. I think gummy babies are cute : better than being born with teeth!

  • We've been told Lily was teething since she was 3 months old.  I was sure she was going to start early.  I think she's been working on her canines since then, but they don't actually come through for a long time (they've peeked through a couple of times, but disappeared again).  She actually got her first teeth back in June - 2 at the same time.  And she still has just those 2, but I think I saw a third (on the bottom, next to the two that are already there, rather than a top middle one - go figure) yesterday.

Maybe he'll get them all over with quickly once he starts?  That's what happened for our friends' daughter.  She had no teeth at 10 months, and all of them (including her 2 year molars) by, like,  15 months.  Those few months were hard, but at least it got all the teething out of the way quickly!

  • No teeth here either. There have been a few times I've thought he might be teething, but I have yet to see so much as a bump on his gums.
  • Anytime your kid drools, coughs, has a rash, looks at you funny someone will say it's teething. Once the teeth start to push through it doesn't take long. He'll probably get them all at once. Lo has 4 teeth through the gums and I can see the clear bubble things on 2 others.
  • My mom claims I was 18 months and speaking full sentences before my first tooth popped.  So late teething must be a sign of intelligence.

  • Good to know there is at least one other October "baby" with no teeth!  I'm dreading having them come in (for bf-ing purposes and crankiness).  I'm just glad he didn't get one on his birthday today. Now if he can just make it tooth-free until his party on Saturday, I'll be happy. :)

Don't stress too much about it.  It's not always the nightmare people suggest.  Lily's only symptom with her first two teeth was more drool and therefore more poop.  She wasn't the least bit cranky.  For this new tooth, there's been some added crankiness but not terrible, either.  Our friends' daughter got extremely clingy with each of her teeth, but not cranky.  And I'm still bfing, too, and have only been bitten a couple of times, completely by accident when she was getting sleepy.

Happy birthday to Rocco and good luck for the party on Saturday!

  • B has 1 stub of a tooth on the bottom.  I was just laughing about it this morning.  :)
  • Amelia had 1 bottom tooth come in at 11 months, and just this week one top tooth and the other bottom tooth broke through. It looks like the other top tooth is about to break through in the next day or two.

It hasn't been bad nursing her. I didn't even know she had 2 teeth, then 3 teeth, LOL. I think it's a perk to having a late teether- they don't seem as fussy (they're too busy playing in the toilet, or eating toilet paper), and they know not to chomp around on your nipple.
