Just checking in with the June moms...
How was the transition for LO and yourself?
How long did the transition take?
I am going back to work next week after DS turns 4 months and I'm a mess about it! Just looking to see how it was from other mommies who recently returned to work. TIA!
Re: Who's back at work?
I've been working part-time since August but I'm self-employed so I couldn't take too much time off from work. The transition was harder for me than for her even though I have two wonderful grandmas baby-sitting her 3 days a week. You just have to be more organized and give yourself plenty of time to get ready and out the door in the mornings. The only bad part about working and BFing for me is that I have to pump in my car (TOTALLY SUCKS) since I am an occupational therapist who does pediatric home care.
Good luck momma...you can do it!
I was back at work the last day in July when DD2 was 6 weeks old.
For me, it was easier then it was when I went back to work 6 weeks pp with DD1. I think mainly because I knew what to expect and honestly, DD2 was soooo colicky I almost welcomed a little break.
Just give youself and your baby some time to adjust. Don't expect to fully be back in work mode after 1 week. Give yourself some time to adjust to being a working mom. It honestly gets easier. I also agree with the pp about giving yourself plenty of time each morning. I get most of my things around the night before going to work. That way I am not running around the morning of.

Goodbye my second angel (9/18/2011)
I went back to work in August, when DS was eight weeks old. I cried a little bit the first morning, but after that first day it was just fine. My mom watches him at our house every day, and it's a great arrangement. The most frustrating thing has been pumping at work - I hate having to take 20 min, 3x per day to pump. I miss DS when I'm at work, but he's well cared for and it makes it easier for me to focus on what I need to.

I went back to work mid August when LO was 10 weeks old. I'm only back part time and it's been good. I am self employed and therefore, I schedule around LO and it that has helped a lot with transition. I initially planned on being back full time when LO turns 1, but now I will be back full time when he is 2.
It does get easier...
I've been back since the end of August. The first week was hard, but I have kept myself busy and only work 30 hours so I get to have some time at home with him. I love when I pick him up-he gives me the biggest smiles and coos at me. So cute!
I would say it was harder on him than on me, but he was only about 3 months when we started back. He slept most of the first week and it did throw off our home schedule for a while. Now, he has a daycare schedule and a home schedule. His caregiver usually tried to time his last feeding for 2.5 hours before I come get him so he's not ravenous when I bring him home.
I went back 2 weeks ago today.
I had a breakdown a week prior to going back. Getting it all out a week prior actually made it easier the night before!
The first day wasn't so bad, but as the week went by it did get a little harder.
Now that I have been back for 2 weeks it has been a little bit easier.
I don't ever think it's going to be "easy" but I know, like others of said, it's definitely harder on you than it will be on your LO!
Good luck!!!
I go back next week too. I got an unexpected job offer and decided to take it.. I'll be part time but the job has good potential for the future.
I've been a nervous wreck for days. Between the crazy daycare costs and leaving my DS, I am still debating whether I made the right choice accepting the job.
I have been back since September 10th. It has been rough, but is getting easier. I know Emelia is having a good time at the licensed by the state in home daycare she goes to 3 days a week. The girl is so nice and I absolutely LOVE her! The other 2 days she is at home and my MIL comes over and watches her while my DH works from home. So, it's not that bad.
I started off crying every day when I had to leave her, and now I am doing better. It's nice to have a little "break". I feel like saying that is mean, because I would absolutely LOVE to be home with her every day, but unfortunately that is not an option right now (hopefully in the future!). It's just nice to have some time out of the house and to be able to interact with my coworkers.
Emelia does very well at the daycare. She naps well, eats well, and behaves! We get pictures texted to us and report cards at the end of every day she is there. It's a great place!
I went back to work part time when DD was 8 weeks, and I might be in the minority here, but it was awesome! It was so nice to have some adult interaction and a little break from the baby. Right now I am working 3 days a week, which is an awesome balance between busy but not overwhelmed.
I have a sitter come to the house so that has helped a lot. I think trusting your child care provider is key to a smooth transition and peace of mind. We were in the swing of things after about 2-3 weeks.
I went back the first week of September. I work 12 hour night shifts so she stays with DH at night, and if I work two days in a row, she goes to the sitters from about 10-4 so I can sleep before going back to work. I feel guilty doing that just so I can sleep but I know I wouldn't be safe at work otherwise; plus, I wouldn't be much fun for her during the day :P She goes to the woman that babysat me when I was a baby and she lives super close. I just nurse when I get home, take her over, then head home for a few hours of sleep. Also I think I'll be dropping my hours from 72 a pay to 60, which will help a little.
I never thought I'd want to be a SAHM, but if it were financially plausible, I think I'd do it.
