I am going to a baby shower this weekend and want to put together a basket of practical items for right after the baby is born. The mother registered at Target but didn't really put anything on the registry besides every kind of pacifier imaginable. I don't know if they are going to BF or FF, no bottles or BFing supplies were on the registry.
I am getting a Halo Sleepsack Swaddle because I absolutely loved that thing when DD was new. What are some other things you guys loved and would definitely recommend to a new mom?
I know this has been asked before but we all know the Bump search feature sucks so here it is again.
Re: Baby shower gift
Moby wrap
Lamaze toys
Mirror for the car
Sleepers or pants with feet attached
Saline spray
Rectal thermometer
Burp cloths
Vulli vanilla teether
ETA a few smaller items
Items for baby: bottle drying tray, mirror for the car, Moby wrap, saline spray/snot sucker, and grooming items.
I also like to include a few items for mommy. It's too bad you don't know if she is bf or ff, because I like to get the gel pads for mommies if they bf. They were amazing the first few weeks.
Swaddleme
Ergo
Lanolin
Diapers
Wet bag (useful even if you don't CD)
Nanobag (There are other brands, but I cannot recommend this enough for winter babies)
Extra onesies
Gerber zip up outfits
tummy time pillow/activity mat
One thing that a friend got me that I LOVED was a box of different odds and ends for when baby is sick. A nose sucker (I ended up getting three nose suckers but the one made by Little Remedies is my FAVORITE), rectal thermometer, Vaseline, boogie wipes, baby Tylenol, baby Advil, a Vicks warmer (you plug it into the wall and it puts Vicks smell in the room so baby can breathe), gas drops, teething tablets, saline for snotty noses, etc. The last thing you want to have to do when baby gets sick is pack baby up and go to the store, or have to send SO in the middle of the night. She had packed them all in a bin that closed so I would be able to keep everything together and in her closet where I could find it. It came in so handy when Gator got her first cold at 2 months old.....and every cold since!
I didn't put binkies or anything like that on my registry because honestly I didn't know which one Gator would take, or if she would even take one at all. I didn't want people buying all different kinds and wasting their money. If I have to get a gift for someone, I never get binkies or bottles just for that reason. My friend had tons of different bottle sets and binkies on her registry and people bought them. Her son would only take one type of bottle and the binky from the hospital. Seeing those bottle gift packs opened to use one bottle and unreturnable due to being opened....I couldn't help but feel bad for whoever spent that $30-$40 on the bottle gift pack that was later given away to someone else.
Long sleeved white onesies
A&A blankets
Those are two things that other moms got me that I didn't know about, and ended up using them a lot.
socks (newborn and older baby sizes with the grippers on the feet)
newborn hand mittens (I thought I had bought enough of these, but they are so easy to loose so i'm so glad I got a bunch at the shower)
hats
baby towels and wash cloths
Munchkin mesh feeder https://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-Pack-Fresh-Feeder-Colors/dp/B000GK5XY2 (I love this thing. You can put fruit in it when you're first introducing solids and I put ice cubes in it to help with teething pain. I sometimes put frozen fruit in it when she's teething. DD loves it!)
Little things, throw away bags for dirty diapers, bibs, small little toys..
What I put in my baby shower gift (along with something from the registry):
*Robeez socks
*Bamboobies (if I know she's breastfeeding)
* Kickypants sleeper
*Tomee Tippee bottle
*Soothe and Glow Seahorse
I put the following in a baby shower gift:
- Summer Swaddleme
- packet of washcloths
- lamaze toy or the Oh Ball toy
- toy/pacifier wipes
- "Who loves baby" photo book with pictures of all our friends
- I usually also sew a stroller blanket with minky on one side, or clothes in 12 month size
-Aiden & Anais swaddling blankets (we still use them even though we don't swaddle anymore)
-infant tylenol
-infant gas drops
-gerber cloth diapers for burp cloths
-bouncer (it was the only way I could get a shower...put the baby in the bouncer right in the bathroom with me)
-sleep sheep
And how about something for mom like gift certificates and menus to restaurants that deliver or do take out in her area?
