October 2011 Moms

Random Tidbit Tuesday baby snacks

Today, I discovered my new goto snack for Wes. Craisins! He f ucking loves them. And bonus points, unlike puffs, goldfish, Cheerios, animal crackers, even mum mums, they don't make a mushy mess on his face or clothes.

Also, I was looking at the Mum Mum box yesterday before I threw it out. I realized I recognized the logo from a box of weird seaweed/rice crackers I buy from the Asian grocery store on the reg because I have bizarre snack habits. So I went back to the Asian grocery today and sure enough, they have mum mums too... Not the same exact ones I get at the regular grocery, but same product essentially, and I got twice as many for half the price. So if there's an Asian grocery in your town... GO! You're a dummy if you're not already buying your rice, spices, and produce there anyway. The prices they charge at the grocery for tiny little jars of McCormacks are bananas.

The more you know...

  • Craisins are loaded with sugar, like a can of soda amount of sugar *ducks and hides*
  • Loading the player...
  • A can of Coke has about 40 grams of sugar. I give him the reduced sugar kind of Craisins, 14 grams for 1/4 cup, and he gets about half that. I don't think that's so bad.

  • Just be careful--craisin/raisins are a choking hazard, especially if they don't have all of their teeth yet.

That's not bad. I haven't seen the reduced sugar ones, I love them on salad but MH doesn't and I haven't given them to the kids so I never buy them. I'll have to look for the low sugar ones so I have an excuse!

  • we've discovered chopped up dried tart cherries. she loves 'em.

You can always just buy regular dried cranberries. They have no sugar added. I pack those I'm LBB's lunch every now and again.

HappyA, the sugar and whatnot! Preservatives, nitrates! How dare you. And at the Asian market?! ::gasp::

V's favorite snack are those Gerber Cheetos.

Same with C, but I try to ration them.  Left alone, he could eat the whole can if he could.  Since I'm so ghetto fabulous, I wrapped up two cans and that was part of his birthday present.  I'm sure that he thought that I was the coolest Mom ever.

  • DD is low on Iron levels so I cut up the jumbo sunmaid raisins (assorted variety) and she LOVES them.

I'm sure DD would love craisins too so thanks for the idea!

oh man. We call them "crunchies" and Wes could easily motor through a whole can in a day. I get them at BJ's 6 for something like 8, I wish I could buy them by the gross.

E got a case of the crunchy things his first Christmas. Zesty tomato was my favorite! I rewrapped baby shower gifts for Los first Christmas so E wouldn't question why Santa skipped the baby. She got pacifiers and bows rewrapped in her stocking.
  • I stopped buying the baby cheetos because I was eating more than she wasEmbarrassed. I will have to try raisins and craisins... I feel like she is getting bored with her normal snack mix (goldfish, yogurt drops, cheerios, and wagon wheels). She was scarfing down Wheaties at daycare the other day, so I will have to add that into the mix.

We get a lot of stuff at the African market...also unbelievable low prices (if you can handle the smell).

  • Our snack right now is a whole apple. SHe also loves those puffs puffcheeto things but I stopped buying thrm because the whole family started eating them.

I go to the Asian market to get stuff to make Lumpia.   I'll have to check it out for other deals.
