Still no teeth and finger foods

I figured I would pop on here since the debate is stressing me out :) So DS still hasn't popped a tooth yet we are still waiting! He is still eating puree baby food and eating puffs and yogurt melts. I tried to give him bananas a couple days ago and he ate one piece then wanted nothing to do with it. Just wondering what some moms are doing with feeding finger foods when they don't have teeth? Thanks ladies!

Re: Still no teeth and finger foods

  • I agree about the debate, DH has it on and I can't take anymore :-)

DD got 2 teeth at 8 1/2 months.  I have been giving her soft pieces of solids since 6 months.  She likes to pick up her own food and feed herself.  She just gums it and I monitor how much she is putting in her mouth.

Is there a particular puree your DS likes a lot?  Maybe try a steamed soft piece of that and see what happens.  We also have been season DD foods with some kind of seasoning (basil, cinnamon, garlic)

  • They don't need teeth to have finger foods.  DD only has 2 teeth (that she got at 9 months) and we gave up purees around 8-8.5 months - she wants nothing to do with them!

Just keep trying - he'll get the hang of it :)

  • My DS just got in 2 teeth and has been eating finger foods for about 2 months now. He eats anything from chicken nuggets to bananas. Everything we have he gets now.

  • My DS still has no teeth either. He does fine with small pieces of food.

  • LO doesn't need teeth for finger foods- their gums are plenty hard for most things (I'd save big hunks of steak for molars!).

  • My LO still doesn't have any teeth and I've been giving her finger foods. She gums them and seems to enjoy them. I still feed her pures though.

  • No teeth here either but that hasn't stopped DD. She eats pancakes, scrambled eggs, yogurt, puffs, cottage cheese, soft cooked pasta and some really soft cooked veggies. She gums them rather than chewing.
